Is anyone else intending to go an see this at the National Theatre this month? And isn't this the best play ever? No heroes, no villians just the utter destruction of distinctions. Fabulous.

It's certainly one of my favourite plays. Not only did I write about it for about two years solidly during my abortive doctorate, but I've even put on a (shit) production of it, which included a rather embarrassing star-turn from yours truly as Dionysus. Very embarrassing. But I know everything there is to know about it...

yours truly as Dionysus

You lucky sod. I'd love to do that. I am planning to see it if I can afford the time/money - when does it finish? I love that play...

Ellis says:
10:16 / 11.05.02
I think it finishes sometime in June- I am going to see it this Tuesday at the Olivier Theatre as it's the best time to fit in with work/ exams.

I'm up for it at some point - also there is apparently going to be the Birds at the National at some point fairly soon...

Mornin' Runce...

Um, is "sometime in June" post- 12th of June?

Please? I can go any day after the 13th, unless someone convinces me it's worth it, in which case I can go any the week before then (3rd-7th). Fucking exams...

So come on! Convince me! As much as I love Tom, Haus, Ellis! and Deva, I really would like a real reason to go beyond "like it".

Please. Educate me in the way of clever culture.

I'm still waiting for the release of this version of it. ::grumbles::

The play was fabulous, loud and horrific (and far funnier than it reads).

Highly recomended

I'm going to be in London on 7/8 june for a party anyway, so that w/e would be ideal.

Glint, it is not clever culture. It is about the god of debauchery, who sends all the women bonkers and then convinces the king to go and spy on them in drag. With hilarious results. Well, okay, completely fucked-up results, but what can you do? Anyway, is classic Greek art in the sense that a god arrives and fucks with everybody's lives. For fun. Then he fucks off again and leaves them to it. Except this one is suffused with perverted sexuality to boot.

I'm up for this, if people are thinkingof a Barbetrip...

I would happily go and see it again...

Oh irk.

Guess everything'll have to be later, as I was planning for it to be earlier, like the Tuesday/Wednesday. Possibly Thursday. I'm gonna have to see just how many times I can fuck work over, tho...

I've noticed no one is actually talking about the play itself. Should we move this to the Gathering and start another thread about the play?

Ellis says:
19:56 / 25.05.02
Or start a new thread in The Gathering and keep this one here?

Hieronymus
23:04 / 25.05.02
Please do.

The Strobe
19:19 / 26.05.02
Yes. I'd definitely be interested in seeing this, seeing as next year a fifth of my course is a compulsory Tragedy paper.

Most of June's OK, but not the 5th - going to see Proof at the Donmar (muaha).

OK....have spoken to my Classicist friend Alice and she is quite up for. I'm havering about going to Torture Garden on the 8th in Brighton (decisions decisions)....anyone fancy the 7th or the 8th?

Ellis says:
13:48 / 28.05.02
Sure, either day is good for me

The Strobe
19:23 / 28.05.02
7th probably not good for me, but not sure if I'd make the 8th either... hmn. 8th could be doable; 7th almost certainly isn't.

The Strobe
20:27 / 28.05.02
evening or afternoon?

The 2pm on the 8th could be most convenient...

Cat Chant
07:12 / 31.05.02
Yes 2pm on the 8th please. Or the evening of the 8th as second choice. Is anyone volunteering to book tickets?

Ellis says:
07:57 / 31.05.02
The afternoon is definately best for me.

I am just checking with Alice if she can make Sunday pm, then I can book tickets if people want...I'm assuming we are talking about closer to the £10 tickets, not the £33 ones...

I'd like to see this one as well (since I got in the UK, haven't been to the theatre). Count me in.

Could you also mention how much you want to pay? The seating diagram is here. I will call them and see how many tickets they have left.

Right, at present their are seats left at the side of the stalls (£24) and of all different kinds in the circle. (£29, £24, £18 and £10, I think). Please express a preference in your PM.

(btw, Deva, if you are coming, could you sell me a copy of 'Sleer as Folk', if it's out? Did you get it published in time for MediaWest?)

Sorry sorry sorry, someone dumped 30 essays on me to mark plus 4 15-essay edited volumes to copyedit, and it was everybody's birthday last weekend. yes please, cheap seats, I am a student so get even cheaper seats by waving an attractive NUS card, I have a friend who might come but won't tell me (probably won't decide till the day, what can you do), and no, Sleer was not finished for MediaWest - haven't had the proofs back and am too scared to email the proofreaders lest (a) they took one look at my f/f PWP and decided to suppress the zine for the good of humanity or (b) the proofs are lost and I have to do all that work over again.

And I should probably have put this in a PM, shouldn't I?

Bah! I'm going on Saturday, apparently- someone just phoned to ask if I wanted a ticket. Possibly restarting the film/tv/theatre thread on it after we've all seen it might be cool!

ONLY NICE THINGS
02:03 / 05.06.02
OK - have ordered 3 tickets (me, Ellis and Deva) in the back circle (cheapest seats going but the nice man did get me ones nearer the centre). Pacha and Meme are also going under their own steam...

When/where shall we meet?

ONLY NICE THINGS

Bump.

Hello? People? Am I the victim of a cruel practical joke? Tickets need to be collected with my credit card by 13:45 at the latest at the Olivier (nearest tube probably Waterloo or Embankment...) Might I suggets meeting at, say, 12:30-1pm at the National Film Theatre Bar?
