Say, gang. I'm thinking that those of us in the Midwest and surrounding areas should definitely hook up sometime. Or, you know, if we wanted to go all-out, we could organize a states-wide meet somewhere. Not necessarily right now, but later in the summer maybe? Who's up for this? Who does this even concern, for that matter? I don't have any idea who lives where anymore...

I'm going to be moving from Oklahoma to Colorado to persue my religious studies/writing destiny sometime around June and August. I might be to meet up somewhere between there.

I Live in Minneapolis and would LOVE to have a Midwest gathering if it were within a day's drive.

Unless I can sucker a friend (one of the many who I've recommended this place to, w/no bites whatsoever...) into giving me a ride, I'll probably be Greyhounding it to wherever. So I would definitely concur w/the "a day's distance away" thing. There's only so much bus-riding I can handle.

I'd like to have a big ol' Midwestern kegger out in someone's field. But that's me.

Hey, nice place. I didn't even know this thread was here because I never check out the Gathering forum. Why? Because 1) nobody else is from Madison & 2) nobody else comes to Madison. I've been looking for a reason to daytrip it down to Chicago, but I'm broke & looking for a job (what? poverty & joblessness are related?). So, um, that's the long & the short of it.

(watches thread sink like a stone)

Madison is close to Minneapolis...

I am planning on going to Windsor in late September, we could do a meet near that area if people want to plan that far in advance.

I'm in California, which (technically) counts as a "surrounding area" of some sort for the Midwest. Don't count on me to attend, though...

Ohio. Would be up for Chicago--a day's drive from Madison, Minneapolis, Cincinnatti . . . no?
But life's a little crazy so I don't know about when . . .

I would throw my vote to meeting in Chicago, because I'm beyond broke (actually about 12 grand in debt) but I live directly south of Chicago and can make it there on a buck eighty. And maybe we can find all those people in Chicago who have been hiding for god knows how long.

we can go to a 'chicago dance' event downtown, + all learn the cha-cha together for free.

alternately there's always taste of chicago- who's playing the final show?- I had a dream that it was the AFKA Prince but that's just a dream talking.

or we could go see 'dada soiree' @ the WNEP theatre in lakeview. try the sampler pack that includes german dada, swiss dada, and general yelling.

I hail from Ohio.

I'd probably be up for a Chicago meet.

Kegger in someone's field would be cool, too, but I have no field. Kegs are much easier to come by.

I'm smack dab in th' middle of So. Central Indiana. Chicago would also be nice for me, especially seeing as how my brother just moved there and I'd have a place to stay.

I’m living in Chicago, and would be glad to hook up . . . but we gotta figure out a way to find each other. The last gettogether we planned, at Earwax, fell apart ‘cause none of us could recognize each other. I guess we’re too Invisible.

How about meeting at the dog beach near Lincoln Park? And how about we all carry a copy of, say, The Grapes of Wrath? (Everyone’s got that on their shelf, and no one will be reading it at the beach.)

That or we can all have “I’M OVER HERE YOU MORONS” tattooed on our foreheads.

What date? A Saturday? How about the 6th of July?

By the way, Blogfaker, I’m from New Mexico too, and will be visiting relatives in Albuquerque around the 12th of July.

Does Detroit count as Midwest? I'm planning a road trip for this summer, and besides, I want to get the hell out of Detroit for a while. Chicago is within driving distance, so that'd be cool...

I could do the sixth of July, but not this weekend. But, if any of you aren't doing anything on Saturday night around 9pm or so, and are at least 21 years of age, I will be at the Prodigal Son, for the Southside Orphans and Dutchmen show. I'll be the guy on stage, probably wearing a Motorhead shirt screaming "thank you we are the Southside Orphans" after every song we play.

I’m pushing for the lakefront, ‘cause I don’t get out enough. Right by dog beach is a nice spot, and it’s easy to find: go to the east end of Belmont, pass under LSD to the lakefront, walk north along the lake path until you see a ton of dogs cavorting on a sandy little beach. If you reach a bunch of tennis courts, you’ve gone too far.

We could pack some crazy bring-what-you-love picnic.

Would 1 PM be good for everyone?
Here’s more detailed directions:
1) Get to Chicago.
2) Get to Belmont. It’s 3200 North. Both the Red and Blue El lines have Belmont stops.
3) Go east on Belmont until it ends, which is where it touches LSD. (Lake Shore Drive). Park, if you drove.
4) Walk north from Belmont along the sidewalk of LSD’s frontage road. Keep your eye out for an underpass on the east side of the street.
5) Take the underpass under LSD to the lakefront bike path.
6) Walk north on the bikepath until you see a grassy area near a sandy beach with dogs playing on it.
7) Look for a group of people on the grass with several copies of “Grapes of Wrath” strewn about them. If said group doesn’t exist, pick a spot, drop your copy of “Grapes of Wrath” prominently nearby, and wait.

1:00 is good. I'm so excited that I'll be crushed when it all falls apart.

I'm afraid I'm going to crap out on y'all and be a no-show. I have absolutly no money and can't afford to go anywhere right now. Have a good time for me, everyone. BTW, if you got pagers/cellphones/etc., I highly suggest using them. I know this kinda stuff can be a little hard to hook up, especially if nobody knows what everyone looks like. To quote Run-DMC, "It's tricky"

Radjose: PM the next time you're heading to Madison & we'll get it together. Bratmobile's coming to town on July 11th for free @ the Union Terrace. If you're down w/ that, lemme know. Otherwise you can search The Isthmus's Website for listings of upcoming gigs and what not.

Yeah, I'm going to unfortunately be unavailable, as well. Not enough money, gotta work, don't have a ride... It sucks. I most likely will, however, be in Chi-town in August for one of the Sonic Youth shows. That would be a great time for me to meet up witchoo guys.

Crap. I should have waited longer. It was just so nice out—after waiting until well after 1:30, I hopped back on my bike and took a ride down the lakefront. When I checked back in about an hour later, still no freak convention, so I went on my way. Sigh. This is the SECOND time for me.

I’m telling you, we’re too invisible for our own good.
