They're both house cats. They're very stupid and would probably get run over within seconds of emerging.

I sometimes think that might be their problem, but a lot of cats are perfectly happy with being restricted to one space... I don't know.

Um... stop whining and adapt?

(Heyyy! That's the answer to everything!)

I found this discussion board about general cat issues including health and stuff. Maybe someone there might be able to advise?

yes, they are too stupid to stay out of trouble. this particular one is the type that runs into walls and that sort of thing.

the cat tree may work...but then again, it may set her into scratching all night.

thanks for the advice, and sorry to hear about the pets-gone-mental stories. I think my solution, if this herbal stuff doesnt work, will be to move into a bigger place.

especially now that last night I discovered 4 tiny kittens in the apartment basement, and shortly after that I got the mom to come back. of course, like a softie dumbass, Im feeding it

you've been adopted by a whole family! cats can always spot a sucker, sorry, i mean a kind and generous spirit, a mile off.

My two cats used to fight incessantly in our old apartment, then we moved to a much larger place and instantly they were like angels. How horrified I was, they just didn't have enough room for the both of them.

Well, I tried the Rescue Remedy thing over the weekend, not sure if it's having an effect but they do seem to like it. I'll keep it up and see what happens.

I let them roam about the house a bit this weekend – due to my allergic reactions to them I tend to keep them in their own space, which is much smaller in my new apartment. I suspect (from the rolling around and snoozing on any soft surface they could find) that I may have to buy one of those big doggie beds for the two of them. (They're very big cats.)

Unfortunately the landlady's (male) cat came up to my floor this morning and the three of them screeched, yowled, hissed, squeaked and groaned at each other from 4AM onwards

sfd - yes, you shoulda seen the mommas face when she saw me. smelled her kittens all over me and the gimpy-love face I put on just for them. goddamn cute little things, I wanted to photograph them all and show everyone I could manage to trap thier cute bear-cub ears

persephone - they get along beautifully, but it may very well be that they need more roaming space. I need to move anyway. first a bigger income then a bigger joint, Im on it this week

Last night I got some sleep, finally. The cats didn't start fussing until 5AM. So maybe this Rescue Remedy thing is doing the job. (An hour makes a difference, let me tell you...)

I also let them sleep on an old coat that I've no use for (I was going to buy a pet bed for them, but if the coat suffices...), and have been trying to spend more time with them, so that might be helping too.

My landlady (who I've been worried about, as she's moving into my old space which is right underneath me) says not to worry about the noise, and to give the cats a couple more weeks to get used to the new surroundings. Relief!
