These chapters begin with lines that have been stamped on my memory for lo these many years:
Mr. Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls.... Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine.
Well, here are the stats:
Chapter 4
TITLE: Calypso
HOUR: 8 AM
ORGAN: Kidney
ART: Economics
SYMBOL: Nymph
TECHNIC: Narrative (mature)
Re: technic, so far we have had narrative (young), catechism (personal), monologue (male), and now narrative (mature). I distinctly felt or heard a little "hooray" in my heart when I read the first sentence of this chapter. Whatever this says about me, I like very much a strong, sure (mature?) narrative voice that just tells me, "Most of all he liked, etc," though it may lead me into an earth-closet of all places. |
