Book Personals: Ulysses Ch 4-7

The Return Of Rothkoid
09:50 / 08.05.02
Thought I'd open this one up, just because people seem to be moving on to the chapters talking about Bloom. I'll start writing some beefier posts when I get a spare minute, but figured that it'd be good to start chatting - this can be a fast-moving book at times...

Persephone
12:02 / 08.05.02
These chapters begin with lines that have been stamped on my memory for lo these many years:

Mr. Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls.... Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine.

Well, here are the stats:

Chapter 4
TITLE: Calypso
HOUR: 8 AM
ORGAN: Kidney
ART: Economics
SYMBOL: Nymph
TECHNIC: Narrative (mature)

Re: technic, so far we have had narrative (young), catechism (personal), monologue (male), and now narrative (mature). I distinctly felt or heard a little "hooray" in my heart when I read the first sentence of this chapter. Whatever this says about me, I like very much a strong, sure (mature?) narrative voice that just tells me, "Most of all he liked, etc," though it may lead me into an earth-closet of all places.

Ariadne
11:33 / 13.05.02
Are people still reading? I've enjoyed these chapters the most so far, probably because I'm more favourably disposed towards Bloom and like all the inner monologue stuff. I keep wondering how this will relate to the previous three chapters (if indeed it does).

Persephone
11:47 / 13.05.02
I am still reading, I just finished Chapter 7 (the one with all the headlines). Stephen Dedalus & Leopold Bloom have just crossed paths...

The Return Of Rothkoid
12:02 / 13.05.02
I'm still reading. I'm up to 13-14? Nausicaa, anyway. I'm just finding it hard to stop and write up stuff; shall do so later, though, promise.

Trijhaos
12:04 / 13.05.02
I'm still reading; stuck in Chapter 6. I'm trying to finish up "A Clash of Kings" before I go back to reading this.
