Just checking out the slew of coverage Spdierman is getting at the moment over its massive grossing opening weekend and came accross this story.

So what do people at the grass roots think- is this film having a positive effect, bringing new people into your local comic stores? Or is it just hype- with a mionority of fans getting wayyyy to fanatical...

I think the effort by Marvel is much better than the X-Men effort to use a movie to get new fans. There are a LOT of trade paperbacks and special issues out now, the main Spidey books themselves are very accessable and new reader friendly.

I just wonder if when people come out of the movie, they even know where comic shops are. Even with the first Batman movie, there was a bump is sales, but not as big as you would think with every human being on the planet seemingly wearing a Batman shirt.

Odd thing I have seen? Kids wearing Captain America shirts. Maybe Cap is due for a minor resurgance...

Hot Topic sells comic shirts. And the Cap Shield shirt was in some videos a while back (Papa Roach maybe?) so I'm not sure how much of it has to do with Captain America, really.
