On the writing of letters.

At the marijuana march yesterday there was discussion of a proposal of a national archive of letters. This would be where copies of letters to members of loal council, provincial government and federal government could be sent to be kept for record purposes. Such an archive would be able to be used to ensure proper following of government duties and accurate representation of contituents and their rights. Also it was considered that it would be useful for statistical information.

I was intrigued by this idea and wondered if anyone else considered that this would be a useful tool for activism or is it the ridiculous brain-fart of a bunch of whacked out stoners on a politics trip?

Not as long as it depends on politicians voluntarily submitting potentially incriminating evidence for archiving, no.

No it would be dependent on people writing letters to politicians and voluntarily sending a copy to the archive and the allowing pressure groups to hammer the crap out of any politician not keeping up with their responsiblities as part of a democratic government and any binding elements of contitutional representation laws.

It would certainly be more effective than allowing a politician to "inadvertantly" bury requests for action and probably go some way towards preventing people from becoming menbers of a parliament because they have their own political aganedas and couldn't care less about their contituents.
