Cover design

I designed a magazine cover, and I want to know what I should do with it, in terms of how it could be made nicer. I've never posted an image, so I really hope I don't eff it up completely.

ok, i like it, i hope you don't think this is too nitpicky...change the date font. well, maybe not, but from here it looks muddy and doesn't really belong where it is. look at other magazines, the dates are really tiny. the cover image is what tells readers it's a new issue, they could give fuck all about the date. the logo kinda stands out too. i don't know if you want to integrate it a bit more, make it less "stand-out-ish." try to mix some of that purple from the woman's jacket into the logo color, then it would mix well with the photo colors. and i think "bachelor" is misspelled. other than that, i like... are you looking into self-pub/a graphic design major/just pissin away a weekend. keep working: your initial design is good, but it looks like a first draft.

In my opinion the logo is very classy and the cover image is startling. But I think that there is something to be said for keeping consistent styles of fonts. I'd personally look to change the text further down the front page - the 'Bachelor of the year' bit, to reflect either the main typography or the kind of russian aesthetic. Something stunningly constructivist. But generally. REALLY COOL.

yeah, a nice commie sans-serif font would be better than the "Marlboro cigarrette" one.

Yeah...tom & utopia are pretty much on the money. When you pick a san serif (most likely bold and all the same letterheight), try to align it to the right at the end of the red box for your header. It'll be less muddy (look at the "7" hitting the complementary green color if the tree in the background) and it'll pop over the white better. Then get the right of the call-out text (the "bachelor" text) to align to the red box and the newly positioned text for the date.

Overall...pretty good.

Nice. Like your logo font, did you build it yourself? I agree with everyone about the font at the bottom though, I'm sure you can get a nice russian font with all the fun backwards letters at fontpool.com for free.

okay, what I should have said:
(1) It's a template. So, it's not about anyone's hots for Stalin.
(2) I can't find a font that goes with the title font. I want a nice squarish serif, but I'd sooner die than use Impact or that one that begins with H, or anything like it.
(3) the close bracket dies.
(4) fuck thats what it is too, it's a marlboro logo font. That's kinda ironic.
The most important thing is that it has to be able to be applied to many different styles. I mean, the colours aren't hard to change, and I do so love the title bar at the top. I'll keep on trying and post a redo soon, which makes me feel like I'm back at design school, save for the tutor telling me I can't smoke outside on the footpath.
But, thanks for the help.

poop. I mean I want a nice squarish sans-serif, and I must have spelt bachelor wrong. Man, nothing worse than fucking up the cover witha print run of 8K hanging over you.

Seriously, go check out fontpool.com, its got over 10,000 fonts - all free and sorted by family types.

I personally use Eurostile a lot in situations like this. It looks nice and doesn't overpower other fonts.
