'Fess up: Are you really fully aware of every candidate-you-vote-for's positition on all the pertinent issues? Do you just reflexively throw the "party" lever? If so, which party? Are there any issues that if a candidate differed from you on them, you'd never, ever vote for hir? How close does a candidate have to get to your exact views to get your vote?

Is it realistic to expect there to be a candidate who agrees with you on everything?

And finally, and most importantly:

Is the looming spectre of a direct-democracy Barbelith going to cause a mass migration of those who prefer the current "benign dictatorship"? Will you vote in Barbelith decisions? Do you think people will try to rig the decisions? And most importantly, will chads be involved?

As for me, I'm a "lesser of two (or more) evils" kind of guy. As an incrementalist and an advocate of the nanny state, I tend to vote democrat in government elections. I'm fully aware that in most cases, that won't make a whit of difference. I refer you to this Cat N Girl cartoon for a humorous explanation.

As for Barbelith voting, I think it will increase the already out-of-proportion rancor that's surrounding the "Gamer" debate right now. But I'll vote.

I do my homework. It's not the responsibility of the candidate to inform, it's the responsibility ofthe voter to be informed.

No candidate is perfect, or a perfect fit for my views. I've been known to hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils--or for the least of three.

There was no leaflets through doors, precious little by way of meeting and greeting and no information even given to the reference library. I'm sorry, but none of the candidates in the area gave a shit and I don't see it as my job to use my time and money to chase them up to find their views, it's part of their job to canvass for fucks sake, it's one of their roles to engage with the public, so surely the first part of that is to flatter me into voting them into office.

I usually become fixated to the newspapers and TV during the election weeks, so nothing passes by me... and I usually end up voting NDP (New Democratic Party, Canada's LibDems) anyways. Anything right of the Liberals are evil, and the Liberals are just too nasty to vote for... (even though they are on their 3rd straight majority govt and don't show any indication of going away this century)

And although the NDP will never again form a government in Ontario (odds are at least), they stand some chance of winning my riding, unlike the Marijuana Party and the Green Party, oh, and the great Natural Law Party.
