The University of Northern Colorado got some cable news coverage for its intramural basketball team The Fighting Whites, a mostly (all?) native american team protesting the Fighting Reds at the high school down the road (and, by extension, The Braves and other sport teams of similar nomenclature.)
The show provided statistics from Sports Illustrated (a journal that does publish a lot of statistics) indicating that most native americans either didn’t care about representation of this sort or rather liked it, buttressing the argument with testimony from a local Uncle Iktomi.
A professor from the University vocally disagreed, and cited some alternative statistics.
We’ve probably had this conversation before, but… Are these folks being too sensitive, revolutionary, or not registering? |
