STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

OK... recently I inherited a bunch of cash from my Gran (obviously I'd pay twice as much for her not to be dead, but that's not the issue) and have been trying to think of something (ulp) SENSIBLE to do with it.
Only this afternoon did it occur to me that my long-standing idea that my ideal job would be lecturing in English Lit at a university could be dovetailed with my "what to do with the cash" thing.
So. Anyone know how you go about this kind of thing? I know you need a PGCE for schoolteaching (but to get one of those you have to spend a year with primary school kids, no matter what age you want to teach) but I'd rather teach people who are there by choice, if you know what I mean. In a fortnight (next time I'm off work) I'm gonna start checking this out for real, but until then, anyone got any handy hints/info/caveats/anecdotes that may help me make this decision?

It is my understanding that to lecture at university level all you need is to bee a graduate (thus loads of post grad students do lecturing on the side to help them cover their costs)... but demand is high for those positions-- A friend of mine occasionally serves as a lecturer in a 6th form college, but he also serves as a supply teacher and did a PGCE...

To lecture in a university you really need to go back to university because it's mostly postgrads who get in to it in the first place. Especially considering that it's English lit and people from the outside are usually writers lecturing on their own work. Best thing you can do is go and get an MA or PhD in English lit or whatever specific area of it you find most interesting at your local uni.
