there doesn't seem to have been much of a build up to this year's may day. last year the media made damn sure that the police could be heavy so as to avoid letting the baby-eating anarchists rampaging the streets. i don't have much access to tv, but i check the bbc etc online and it all seems a completely different atmosphere, although i don't doubt the police will be out in force.

and yes, the timing to this *is* rather marvellous.

Hmm, not sure about the lack of media madness. These are just some of it:

http://www.independent.co.uk/story.jsp?story=280780

It's the usual idiocy, I can't even be bothered to deconstruct it...

Oh and also from today's Times:

"Scotland Yard appealed for help this weekend in identifying five suspected anarchists who are expected to return to the scene of last year's May Day protests. The individuals, who include an attractive young woman, were caught
by police surveillance cameras.

Detectives believe the five may join a hard core of 300 or 400 anti-capitalists planning violent protests across London on Wednesday. At least a dozen anarchist leaders have moved into London addresses to co-ordinate the protests."

An "attractive young woman"?! Well would you believe it? And there was me thinking they were all at home having babies and doing what hubby tells them. Jeezuz...

And as for "anarchist leaders" ...

*bangs head against screen in despair*

ok. i take back what i said earlier! i really got the impression that last year's hysteria was not being repeated. ah well.

on the bright side, with any luck the sun might be able to get a photoshoot for page 3 with the female anarchist 'stunna'....

Lol! I'm trying to think of potential captions for a page 3 anarchist "totty", but Krophotkin is the best I can do and that's too subtle for the Sun. I'm also having hysterics at this:

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/html/news.html

Luckily none of the articles were written by our very own Barbeloid who I believe is based there, but they're worth checking, if only for the description of one fellow as a "womble chief"! It has a primitivism all of its own which ranks it just above "anarchist leaders" in terms of hysteria-inducing stupidity.

I bought the Evening Standard today just to see the map of 'May Day Flashpoints'. Nothing outside of Clerkenwell or Mayfair it seems. Better luck to them all compared to last year.

It's odd, last year Mayfair was boarded up like a hurricane was coming in, so far I've only seen one or two places boarded up. Granted, not much happened last year, but then it wasn't named as a significant location that time. Ah well, we'll see what happens.
