In which Rothkoid tries to get a bunch of Barbelithers to come along to all manner of stuff.

Videodrome is, as this thread suggests, in London for about a week in May. And it's going to be a week of rawk! Here's what's planned so far:

15/5: Giant Sand at Ocean, Hackney.
16/5: Rammstein at the Docklands Arena, London.
17/5: Oxbow, somewhere in Brighton.
19/5: Barbemeet, somewhere in London.
20/5: Shockheaded Peter - possibly.

Anyone interested? Giant Sand are usually prefixed with "the legendary". Rammstein will have more beefy man action and self-combusting Germans than should be allowed by law. Oxbow are the scariest bunch of fuckers I've ever heard. Shockheaded Peter is one of the best things I've ever seen on stage. Ever.

What's not to love?

There'll be at least a party of three (I think) going to each, so if anyone has any interest, then speak up! The more the merrier, kids.

one of the best gigs i've done (though they don't sound as good on record). they're also playing next friday.

i have to do one, or both, of these gigs. i've been waiting for them to come to london for two years. who's with me?

the mooney suzuki are playing TONIGHT as well. which is good coz i was too poorly to make monday. now who's with me and sleazenation?

if you want an idea of the sound, think the strokes/hives/white stripes garage rock, gearing more towards the hives' sense of the ridiculous than the strokes' ubercool (though they are friends with the latter and have played together).

they're playing at the metro club somewhere in oxford street; i'm guessing doors open around 7ish.

Change of plans!

The Oxbow gig, previously tentatively scheduled for Brighton, has now changed. Now, it's at The Verge in Camden (147 Kentish Town Rd), near(ish) Camden tube, Camden Road overland and Kentish Town tube, kinda. And it's £5 for four bands, including the ferocious SF posse, helmed by a 245lb guy who's got something going with Grappling magazine when he's not being frontman.

So there's no excuse. C'mon! It will rock in a wounded-child kind of way.

After getting in touch with the band, I can safely say that the gig at The Verge is on Wednesday night. Still a fiver. Friday's Leeds, which is no good for me. Am trying to decide what to do... the draw of the Oxbow is strong...

New Plan!

Giant Sand are being bypassed, sad to say. Alt.country delicacy lost out to a gigantic wrestler and his riffage of dooooom.

So.

Who's up for it? Tomorrow night, four bands, five quid. Myself, Loomis, Chairman Maominstoat (methinks) and Videodrome will be there. Maybe more. If you can't get to the meet on Saturday and would like to meet Videodrome while he's in these isles, it'd be perfect.

SO g'wan. PM me for details? I'm probably interviewing the band beforehand, so will be there relatively early, I'd say... whaddya reckon?

SFD: How tiny is tiny? Will I need body-armour?

the verge is one of the smallest venues i've been to. been upstairs at the garage? probably smaller than there, even. you will become intimate with the band and audience. you will become one....

Sweet bastardy fuck.

That was amazing.

Review online in a couple of days, hopefully, photos too. Unbelieveable. There was hardcore rock, cheap CDs, cocks-out Jarvis-clone face-shagging, and an inordinate amount of Guinness.

Genius. Pure genius. And I think my ears are bleeding. Hmm.

god, do i need some fucking sleep. got home about 1:30am.

but i did get to walk across the new hungerford bridge just when big ben was striking the quarter hour! it's fab...though my feet/legs were still wobbly-jelly-like from the gig, so it didn't feel very stable....

and i had eartape stuck on my shoe...
