Heads up!

Videodrome shall be heading over to London for a week in May - so I figured a meet would be in order. Show him how to drink properly. All that kinda thing. Anyway - here's the plan so far:

A meet.
Sunday, May 19th.
Afternoonish.
Somewhere - though we all know it'll default to the Jorene Celeste with no other alternative. I'd suggest the Daniel Defoe in Stoke Newington, but that's really only because Stoatie, Barry Auckland, SFD and I live within stumbling distance. And I'm a lazy bastard.

So - who's in? Thoughts? Bring it on! Oh, and check out the music meet thread, too...

Hmmm, the JC was pretty busy on the Sunday when we had that last meet there, about half-dozen of us and Barry Auckland as the official 'newer person than Cherry'. But otherwise I'd be up for it.

well, i'm pretty sure i'll be in berlin that weekend so i'm afraid i'm rather out of the picture on this one.

That's a shame, sfd. 'Cause Roth's right - I need to be taught how to drink - and more importantly, stumble - right and proper. Or something. Why else would I go to London?

why do i have a feeling that i'm already busy that weekend?

oh yeah!! saturday night is the fish fry! a bunch of us are going to dance our arses off to northern soul and new orleans funk in a fetish club in kennington. who's with us?

then we can stagger to the pub on the sunday and nurse our sore knees together...

Unless I'm being hugely thick, is aforesaid Saturday Night Fish Fry not on the 11th?

Damn. I had become a little excited at the thought of dragging Roth to the Fish Fry. Ah, well...

Take him to the chippy instead.

JC is probably OK, though as Misheard Lada says, it was a bit full of happy families last time we were there on a Sunday. Trying to think of somewhere else... there's the Spread Eagle which is passable, the Mac Bar where you can see Graham Coxon playing really badly on Sundays (but is quite pricey), both in horrible Camden, um... I'm stuck now... the Daniel Defoe is fine so long as no one's allergic to dogs...

it all depends on the size of the crowd expected... the princess louise was pretty empty that time we hired out the room an its hoborn location means it A) easy to get to and B) More likely to be empty at the weekend thanks to the lack of types from the city

Places-easy-to-get-to-from-Kings-Cross-by-hyper-stressed-exam-students would be helpful. Still can't guarantee I'll get there, but I'll see what I can do.

the princess louise is at hoborn- two stops from kings cross on the picadilly line...

let's go and annoy him!

What about that place we went for Kooky's birthday? Any chance of getting that again or was that a fluke? Admittedly it possibly borders on the difficult to find, but then we've had meetings at the Bluu Bar or whatever it was...
Come to think of it...

that
19:27 / 03.05.02
I can come, although I am never up for boozing (it's not my *fault*, honest). I love dogs though, so a doggy pub would be a bonus.

I'd love to have some actual input in this, but as I don't actually know any of the possible places, I can't see what I can say...

Except that I like dogs. Dogs are funny.

Kooky's party was at the Blue Posts, on the corner of (IIRC) Newman Street and Eastcastle Street. The upstairs was indeed quite cool, but since it is very difficult to predict Barbemeet numbers it may be hard to justify it, and the downstairs is pretty poky...

sleazenation
22:55 / 05.05.02
yeah - as haus alludes to we actually hired that place out for kooky's bash- ... the reason that the JC is so often the default setting is that it is so large that big gatherings can usually be acomodated with ease...

but what do people think of the princess louise?

I'm okay with the PL, it's just they don't serve any booze I can actually stomach...

The Return Of Rothkoid
07:57 / 10.05.02
Bump.

Does it look like the PL is the go? How about the Chandos near St Martin's? Not quite evil beer, but the upstairs room is a) usually open and b) kinda empty on weekends and c) not reminiscent of a stable, as downstairs is.

Thoughts?

mondo a-go-go

chandos over the PL. oh yesyesyesyesyes yes! and not just coz it's walking distance from home.

Well, it is near where Shockheaded Peter is on, in case we end up going there that evening... hmmmmmm...

So are you now the official ambassador and tour guide for out-of-town Babelithers, Rothkoid?

The Return Of Rothkoid

Nah. They're both just staying at my house. I am purveyor of futons and dodgy meals to those from mailing-list pasts.

Or something.

So come along. All of you!

The Chandos sells only filthbeer, but should be pretty quiet in the afternoon, and is good for modular seating solutions that adapt to numbers. I'd go for it.

Yer. He just happens to be the host to two of us he met in the ages past before Barbelith. Works out nice, eh?

Thanks Roth, in advance.

Ariadne
20:54 / 10.05.02
Well I'll certainly do my best to be there, be good to meet you videodrome.
