There was mention of personality types on this thread" and since I love these things I found a Jung Myers-Briggs test online here".

Lets have loads of them. Yeah.

BTW - I'm an INFP. Does that mean I passed the test?

Weird. Usually I come out INFP. Guess I am getting more judgemental as I get older. Still, 3 out of 4 categories I was only "Slightly" expressed. I suppose that either means I am well balanced or don't have much of a personality at all.

Wow. I've never come out as a judging type on one of those. Usually INFP. Actually, last time I took one, I came out Extroverted. But a reversion to introversion is consistent with my current habits I suppose. But judging? I think that's all lies! Those people are idiots!

(Oh crap.)

Seems about right if a little exaggerated, but having taken tests like these before (maybe even this exact test) I usually vary between INTJ and INTP depending on my mood and the test. Reading the profiles, the whole thing about strong will and self-confidence sounds a bit wrong. But perhaps I am hiding my true self from myself?

Aparently, I'm a "healer idealist" (whadafuck?), just like Princess Diana, Golda Meir, Richard Gere...

Healers have a profound sense of idealism derived from a strong personal morality, and they conceive of the world as an ethical, honorable place. Indeed, to understand Healers, we must understand their idealism as almost boundless and selfless, inspiring them to make extraordinary sacrifices for someone or something they believe in. The Healer is the Prince or Princess of fairytale, the King's Champion or Defender of the Faith, like Sir Galahad or Joan of Arc. Healers are found in only 1 percent of the general population, although, at times, their idealism leaves them feeling even more isolated from the rest of humanity.

Yeah, right. From now on, you can call me Dead Galahad, for a change...

Healers seek unity in their lives, unity of body and mind, emotions and intellect, perhaps because they are likely to have a sense of inner division threaded through their lives, which comes from their often unhappy childhood. Healers live a fantasy-filled childhood, which, unfortunately, is discouraged or even punished by many parents. In a practical-minded family, required by their parents to be sociable and industrious in concrete ways, and also given down-to-earth siblings who conform to these parental expectations, Healers come to see themselves as ugly ducklings. Other types usually shrug off parental expectations that do not fit them, but not the Healers. Wishing to please their parents and siblings, but not knowing quite how to do it, they try to hide their differences, believing they are bad to be so fanciful, so unlike their more solid brothers and sisters. They wonder, some of them for the rest of their lives, whether they are OK. They are quite OK, just different from the rest of their family-swans reared in a family of ducks. Even so, to realize and really believe this is not easy for them. Deeply committed to the positive and the good, yet taught to believe there is evil in them, Healers can come to develop a certain fascination with the problem of good and evil, sacred and profane. Healers are drawn toward purity, but can become engrossed with the profane, continuously on the lookout for the wickedness that lurks within them. Then, when Healers believe thay have yielded to an impure temptation, they may be given to acts of self-sacrifice in atonement. Others seldom detect this inner turmoil, however, for the struggle between good and evil is within the Healer, who does not feel compelled to make the issue public.

That's me, all right...

(alhtoug I think the test should have a "depends on the context" button)

Teacher Idealist

Teachers have the charming characteristic of taking for granted that their expectations will be met, their implicit commands obeyed, never doubting that people will want to do what they suggest. And, more often than not, people do, because this type has extraordinary charisma.

ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it's usually not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.

I'm an Enabler! WOO!

ORA ORA ORA ORAAAA!!
13:01 / 12.07.06
I am, apparently, an ENFP (Champion!).

Which is interesting. I'm a moderately expressed extrovert, which is also interesting, since that's a relatively recent thing in my life (I used to be a tremendously introverted person, to the point where, in school, I would spend all my free time reading, and walk from class to class reading, and not talking to anyone, etc).

I generally agree with the analysis, but a lot of it is too extreme, I'm much more middle-of-the-road than my results indicate. I think.

INFJ, and also bemoan the lack of a "sometimes" option. Half of the questions really are "well, that depends on what I had for lunch" kind of things.

I think I always used to be an INFP until changing to an INSP, or was it INFJ, in the last few years. Whatever. I can never look at these tests, especially Meyers-Briggs, in quite the same way after reading Barbara Ehrenreich's book about white-collar corporate culture, Bait and Switch. I wish I could pull out a quote, but I returned it to the library weeks ago. But to loosely sum up her impression, these tests are quite bad at describing anything true or useful about a person... as several people here complained, the lack of a "sometimes" totally ignores the fluid and changeable nature of individual personality. Mostly these are just corporate tools that put a pseudo-scientific veneer over HR and hiring processes. And also, there IS NO SANTA CLAUS!

Last weekend my SO and I bought a book of IQ and EQ tests to do just for fun. One of them was a social intelligence test that presented several social scenarios and then groups of possible responses. You had to rate each response in terms of how effective it was likely to be, and got points according to how close your ratings were to those of "the experts." I found most of the "experts'" responses to be a bit rude and my choices were more passive overall. My SO and I both got abysmal scores and the verdict that "most of your social interactions will be argumentative," which is not true for either of us, but it was good for a laugh.

15:07 / 12.07.06
Red Frog, I'm also an ENFP[1] - it's obviously for people with 'rising' in their names.

Australian people with rising in their names. Yes indeed. This personality testing is a doddle.

[1] at least I was the last time I did it, years ago. I suspect I may have slid across to the I side these days.
