I e-mailed Bruce, when I was researching my dissertation, and he was kind enough to reply. What a lovely man. Now why the fuck would he of been in Congo?

Congo? That's the movie with the gorilla that murders people, right?

Are there ever going to be any more Evil Dead movies?

I enjoyed Army but not as much Evil Dead 2. They toned down the red and amped up the Stooges sthick so they could get the kiddies into the seats ... It was the nastiness combined with humor that turned my crank in the second and Army just wasn't nasty enough for me. (Still good though).

Word is, that Raimi has a low budget horror movie in the works and a buncha geeks around here (Vancouver-Hollywood North) are speculating that it is Evil Dead 4. But as far as I know this all wishful thinking on their part ... you can't believe evrything you find on the web. Let me know if anybody comes across some straight news....

oh yes, i've heard those rumors too. little drops of pee are moistening my undies with excitement. this has to be made: god owes me one for making me believe george romero would direct resident evil (when it was supposed to come out 4 years ago).

there's as much a chance of an Evil Dead 4 as there is of a Meet the Feebles Strikes Back, i'd say.

will you think I'm crazy? At 21:33 24.04.2002:

He really does seem like a genuinly nice guy. I saw him at an in-store when he was doing his book tour about a year ago. Not only did he answer the same fanboy questions he must've heard a million times over by now, he promised not to leave until he signed everyone's books & memorabilia. Given the fact that the place was packed like sardines, I wouldn't be surprised if he was ther for over 2 hours signing stuff left & right. He also came up with the best story about how LA changes people:

"A couple of months ago an old friend of mine invited me to a party he was having. He said "Yeah, so&so will be there, and blah-blah, And yadda-yadda" and kept going on about who was gonna be at the party.

Now, a couple of years ago before he moved to LA, he would've said "Hey Bruce, I'm having a party come on over, it'll be really fun". And that's exactly why I didn't go to this last party--because he didn't say it was going to be any fun."

My buddy, Ryan, got Bruce to sign a copy of "A Farewell to Arms" I think it was, and he signed it "Use this book to fight evil." Rock.

In an attempt to enlighten me and get me to stop calling Bruce Campbell Brisco County Jr. videodrome and Margin Walker have gotten me to watch The Evil Dead Trilogy...

Just saw Evil Dead and I have to say this movie sucked soooo bad! Should I even bother getting Evil Dead 2 or should I just go straight to Army of Darkness?

Evil Dead 2 is one of the best movies ever.

Silly horror film, nuts comedy and the best chainsaw scene I ever did see.

Army of Darkness. What a great film! I'm sure I've posted this here before but it still amuses me. A friend of mind has little imagination and mainly enjoys gritty crime dramas and historical films. He sat down and watched Army of Darkness one night. This is what happened (spoilers)....

He watches the film from the start and watches Ash smash the mirror. He watches lots of mini-ashes get out of the mirror shards and attack Ash. He watches Ash swallow mini-ash and then poor boiling water down his mouth. He watches as evil Ash grows out of his shoulder and fights good Ash. He watches good Ash shoot bad Ash in the face and then chain saw up the body. He watches the body being buried and sees the head of the dead ash speak to good Ash. At this point my friend gets up and leaves the room with the line, "I'm not watching this. Its so unbelievable! No-one could survive being shot in the face!".

nono, don't get me wrong I wasn't expecting a serious realistic movie... and the gore was awesome. I guess I was expecting something better and grander with all the hype. Instead I got cheap 70s porn. (Without the porn)

Just saw Army of Darkness and I have to say this movie was great fun. I loved it. It was sorta like, "What if Xander was the Slayer?" Are there any other movies like this that I might not have heard about? (even though I had heard about this one I just always thought it sounded stupid )

yeah, I've got to agree somewhat with Impulsive Lad. When I go back and watch those films, I usually skip the first Evil Dead. I much prefer to start with Evil Dead 2 and move on to Army of Darkness. The first one feels like a rough draft.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I wish to hip you to Bruce Campbell's new film: Bubba Ho-Tep! With Bruce Campbell as Elvis Presley & Ossie Davis as JFK teaming up to defeat a "soul sucking Mummy" antagonist, how in the name of all that's holy can this not rock the casbah?¿? I mean, come on, the guy from Evil Dead, Maniac Cop & Army of Darkness as Elvis?! A black actor playing a character that thinks he's John F. Kennedy?! This thing is going to have more cheese than a Herschell Gordon Lewis film festival in California (I would've said Wisconsin, but Cali makes more cheese than us now). Christ, just look at this Velveeta!!:

Ofcourse Evil Dead looks cheap..it was done in college for a rediculously small budget. (which is why the man monstre consists of a running cameraman.) Id be happy if I could pull off something like that with the amount of money that had. I would. Honestly. Let me proove it. Give me money. Right now. What are you waiting for?
Rumour has it they're going to be starting on the next one up in Vancouver sometime later this year...

I liked Evil Dead II the best, too. Until recently, I lived in a kind of movie-vacuum and didn't really know anything about this movie before seeing it. I laughed so hard, I felt drunk. Even my roommate couldn't ruin my enjoyment (and she has ruined the pleasure in viewing almost every movie I've ever watched with her).

Unlikely, given that Raimi is doing the second Spider-Man film. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for another Evil Dead picture. A fourth Romero zombie film is far more likely...

art thou referring to the Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness version? i just saw this in the video store yesterday, but passed up on it. hypothetically, if one were to buy AoD, would one (okay, it's me!) purchase the original version, or this "bootleg" one?

keep in mind i think george lucas should have left the Star Wars trilogy well enough fucking alone (if that makes any sense).

I bought Bruce Campbell vs. the Army of Darkness when it first came out on DVD. Originally, I swore I would not buy any new versions of the Evil Dead trilogy... a new 'special edition' DVD comes out about once every six months. However, the 12.99 price tag grabbed me. I still haven't watched the commentary yet, so I can't speak for it, but the film itself... I kinda wish I hadn't seen it. I mean, I'd seen the alternate ending before, and I'm not really partial to a particular end. That didn't bother me. However, the replacement of the "Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun." line really, really irked me. To the point that I haven't watched it again since.

However, I did get to see Evil Dead II in the theater a few weekends back... you have to love Summer Midnight Movie season. This makes the second time I've caught EDII in the theater, and it's always worth it. Especially to someone like me, who never had a chance to see any of them during their original run. I also won a free pass to the next Midngight Movie during the trivia questions. Winning something was less about actual knowledge about EDII than it was about screaming out said knowledge the loudest. Luckily, I managed to pre-guess the question... "Director Sam Raimi's..." "Spider-Man!!!" One free pass. I used it go see Some Kind of Wonderful with my sis, and then I got the theater chick to give her a free pass 'cuz it was her birthday. I felt accomplished.

on the subject of Evil Dead screenings: anyone in the NJ/Phila area may be interested to know that Mon. Aug.26, Evil Dead 2 will be screening at the Prince Music Theatre on Chestnut St. in Philly at about 9:30 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door, and Bruce himself will be attending on account of his book signing tour. (the signing begins at 6 pm, i think...). that is all.
