(I don't know if this belongs in Haus's hate speech thread, if so please move this thread on over to the Head Shop)
Ambercrombie & Fitch recently released their new line of duds and, not surprisingly, Asain Americans took offense to some of the shirts with such progressive shirts like:
(in case that image didn't load...)
Well, A&F pulled the shirts after a bunch of Asian-Americans complained about them. As A&F PR outfit put it "We personally thought Asians would love this T-shirt," said Hampton Carney, with Paul Wilmot Communications in New York, the public relations firm where Abercrombie referred a reporter's call. Another news story (from CNN) here.
All done, story's over, right? Nope. Because these shirts are now collector's items, they're ending up on eBay. As if $25 for a t-shirt (the origional listed price) isn't enough, some of these are going for over $100 if you can believe it. So this is what some folks on one of my other boards (Giant Robot) are doing. Creating disposible e-mail accounts, placing a huge bid (which no one intends to pay) to "win" the shirt and therefore getting the contact info of the sellers. Then releasing the seller's e-mail, snail mail & phone # online & on the board. If so inclined, here's the thread of said information--it's called "Robots MobiliZZZZ part Duex [sic]"
So, what y'all think? |
