I dunno, what did you have trouble understanding? Maybe the thing to do would be to ask for a clarification on the relevant thread. We're a fairly friendly bunch in the lab- we were genetically engineered that way. By lizards.

Above all: Don't be intimidated. Nobody knows everything. Sometimes it's just a matter of having stuff explained in a way that's right for you.

there's usually some stray info on the net about stuff in lab. i'm sure there's tons on nanotechnology, because there are some number of books published on that subject. and if that weirded you out, oh what is in store for you!

trijhaos man, it's been a sick, sad weekend of following each other around. i think seeing those pics hit my internal reset button, like on the old nintendos. you either provided me with a new insight on the universe, or took 5 years off of my life...and you should be blushing: your fly's open

If yer into films, just go to the film section, it's full of goodness, as is the comics one.

The Shoggoths where created by the starheaded Old Ones a long time ago, they where the first organic creatures of earth. They where created as best of burden, to serve the Old Ones under the sea. The Shoggoths are protoplasmic creatures, able to change their "flesh" into any type of organs or forms by command of the Old Ones. After a time they devloped and manged to mimic the sounds and speak of their masters, and even began thinking for themselves. Their changed led to the War of Resubjugation, which occurred around one-hundred and fifty million years ago, when they rebbeled agaist their masters. How long this war lasted is unknown, but the Old Ones manged to regain control by the use of energy weapons. The first and only encounter between a Shoggoth and a human occurred under the lost city on the Plateau of Leng. They are desribed by Professor Dyer of the Miskatonic University Expedition (At the Mountains of Madness) as: "vaster than a subway train--a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and unforming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front...crying "Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!" and at last we remembered that the demoniac Shoggoths--given life, thought, and plastic organ patterns by the Old Ones, and having no language save that which the dot groups expressed--had likewise no voice save the imitated accents of their bygone masters."

Lono - here's how this place works.

Every comment you make that's fluff goes into the Conversation. No one really gives a damn what's being talked about in there. It's where you can vent about absolutely anything you like, talk in a completely chatty way with all and sundry and just generally hang out.

The other fora are different. Basically in principle if you don't feel you have something to contribute to the discussion you (and everyone else who feels the same) shouldn't write anything. Many of us spend much more time on the board reading than writing.

If you're interested in philosophy and cultural studies, then the Head Shop's the place to be.
If you're interested in science and technology, then the Laboratory is the place to be.
If you're interested in politics, current affairs and activism, then the Switchboard is the place to be.
If you're interested in mysticism, religion or magic, then the Magick is the place to be.

These fora are pretty heavy going and very down on fluff posts.

The Spectacle is all about media - the best films, music, art, books and comics - and conversation is quite a bit lighter there than in the Revolution fora. Respect the thread you're in is probably the best advice. If people are taking themselves very seriously then respect that and only contribute if you actually CAN contribute. If people are pissing around, join in freely and however you want. Within reason...

The other fora are kind of special cases. The Policy is where board policy is discussed - it's my personal fiefdom and I'm quite severe in it with people. It's the first place I go on the web every day, and the last place I go on the web before bed. Because I have t know about all the problems on the board I ask that people respect it and use it ONLY for what it's for.

The Creation is a collaborative writing space, as well as a place where people can talk about projects they might have going. Again - RESPECT THE THREAD is probably the best advice. Go with the sense of what other people are doing or start your own thread. And lastly The Gathering is where everyone organises piss-ups.

I hope that's cleared things up a bit.

I'd suggest initially only posting in the Conversation, but reading everything on the board that you're interested in. And move from there...
