Will Self crops up here every so often - the general consensus seems to be that he is one of the better mainstream writers out there (i.e. better than Nick Hornby and Marin Amis). There was a thread about him in the conversation, which I think is no longer extant. This was followed up by a thread in Books examining the claim that he was "the finest living writer in English today", which rapidly became a schism betwen those who felt Self was overrated and those who felt reading books by people other than Will Self was in some way pretentious. That can be found here.
Is Self not very well-known in America? I had a feeling that would be the case... |
