Basically, what the title asks...um...go at it.

(I need ideas.)

Holiday? I've got two weeks before the end of the semester. I've basically been told I need to seriously look for work. I'm not going to be able to sit and vegetate in front of the television.

So if all goes as planned (yeah, right. That'll happen when pigs fly and hell freezes over), I'll be a working bee-like drone by day and a lumpy couch potato by night.

What is this thing you Earth people call... holiday?

Go to Cuba and look at the frankfurters.

A holiday is a period of time when most people are at loose ends because they have nothing to do.

I plan on Glastonbury, maybe a week in Amsterdam, other than that, sitting in parks with my dog and drinking beer. Or if weather does not permit such, sitting in my room moaning to all of yous about how crap the weather is.

I'm going to Liverpool for a long weekend when I finish college. I appreciate that many may consider this odd, but I like it there (and it could be sooooo fucking beautiful and popular if the government would throw some proper fucking money at it), and have periodic urges to revisit my childhood/heritage. I also heard that the Yellow Submarine I remember from the Liverpool Flower Festival in the early 80's is being rescued/refurbished. I want to see it, if such a thing is possible.

However, Liverpool is a little far away from Miami, and would probably be considered an eccentric choice by your fellows, impulsivelad. I guess it all depends on what you're after, and what you're into... not to mention what is accessible to you... good luck finding something fun to do.

Cholister, Liverpool is wicked - and I can get there on a day trip. If you fancy it & if our dates harmonize, we could go to the Tate together or something?

My summer is the Summer of Slash! RedRose convention at the end of July - a whole weekend in a hotel "talking to women of above median age and weight about boysex", as someone put it. I'm particularly excited because a friend I only ever see at cons will be there, and she's recently started writing top-quality Snape slash. Then a slash-writing friend I've never met IRL is coming to stay with me, then we're both off to *another* con about how to edit/publish Blake's 7 zines.

Thinking about this is the only thing which is getting me through the weeks at the moment (teaching has restarted.)

Hey, Deva - that'd be v. cool! If I am lucky, sfd will be coming with me, too. I'll let you know when I'm/we're likely to come up, and we'll see if we can work something out?

Have fun at the convention/s, btw! (not that I think you are likely to need any encouragement in that respect)

I would think that Alaska is going to be pretty nice in June, and Florida is going to be pretty hot.

I'll mostly be comuting between the island and London to visit my in-hospital girlfriend. So yeah, my summer holiday's gonna rock.

All this hinges on someone putting me up. Arse.

We're taking a couple of jaunts down into the US of A in July. Once down to Columbus for the Origins Convention, and once down to Baltimore for a week-long holiday. First one we've had since our honeymoon. I'm fairly excited. Holidays are a good thing.

Zoom.

Sounds like fun Barry. Let me know details and I'm sooo there!
Also can I suggest: Belfast - Dublin - somewhere random in Ireland - Cork - Swansea - Cardiff et al.

in a week i'm *flying* to cornwall, which seems silly and exciting at the same time, to visit my family near st ives, go to the tate and check out the gay scene in penzance (i.e. one bar). a couple of weeks after that i'll be going to berlin to visit my best friend, who reckons she wants me to move in but will have changed her mind by the time i get there. wanna do the liverpool trip for sure, which means i'll have visited every tate in the country, which seems pretty neat. still want to do the anchorage to vancouver drive, but it's going to be pretty expensive....

plans, plans, is all i have at the moment.

a possible trip to madrid for a few days to see a friend/wander round spain... if I can afford think I may grab a railpass and do some friend-visiting in europe, got friends in italy, germany and holland I've been promising visits to for years... may even get a *job*...

Failing that, looking quite seriously at flights to San Francisco, I'm a woman obsessed with SF atm... actually any advice on cheap places to stay in SF would be most welcome...

Need to get out of this bloody country for a bit...

so glad to hear it, bk! i'm taking my two crazy lil birds back to hawaii where i grew up. they've never been and are finally going to get to see/do/visit all the things that i did as a kiddie. then we're goin' to disneyland! their first trip there too. they are both absolutely dying over this. to make it even better we'll be there for the littlest bird's b-day which she is freaking out about..."you mean i get to have breakfast with cindarella and goofy on my birthday?".

i love hearing that there are other barbe-mom's out there enjoying summer holidays with their kiddies =)

No idea yet. Trying to get some work experience, maybe proper work too, taking a break from the mentalness that is Part I, and then maybe visiting friends around the country. And probably holiday with parents too.

KKC- have already stocked up on acres of factor 25... fucking skin...

Ok - this is the best ever tip for sunburn, and right now I offer it to all those similarly afflicted. Get Greek yoghurt. Smear Greek yoghurt all over affected area - leave overnight. In the morning, wash it off, and though you'll still look lobsterfied, it won't hurt nearly as much, it really takes the heat out of the burn. Miraculous stuff.

Essential oil of lavender in a base oil applied to the area is supposed to help, but I hate the smell... aloe vera gel is v. good for regular relief.

Actually I find getting under a hot shower works - it hurts like hell, obviously, but only for a while, and then it's not even uncomfortable any longer. Don't recommend this if you're so burnt that you've blistered, though.

Last summer I got burnt through my fishnets - don't recommend that either, especially if you are a sensitive sort who doesn't like being laughed at.

Well, last time I burnt really nastily was about seven years ago, and I got evil sunstroke leading to Exorcist-beating projectile vomit. Yum.

Anyhow, Chol's right - kids suncream is GREAT - way stronger than similarly priced adult stuff, possibly nicer smelling, and generally more pleasant on your skin.

I'll steer clear of showers... and just try not to burn.
