B..b.. bump.

The new album 'The Life Pursuit' came out yesterday- its been on my stereo constantly and its really rather good - just what i wanted to be listening to. Anybody else got it yet?

It sounds to me like a continuation from 'Dear Catastrophe Waitress' - the lush Trevor Horn production which took me a while to warm to on 'Waitress' is all over this one too- but my first impression is that its very very good (FYI i love waitress now although my initial impressions weren't great). The packaging is also ace with a rather nice DVD/ CD set which has a booklet sewn into the spine between the CD's that smells like a new book. Good stuff.

The stand out tracks are 'Mornington Crescent'- which closes the record and is an epic teary vintage B & S moment, 'The Blues are Still Blue' which is an obvious step forward from Waitress stuff with Stuart Murdoch almost sounding like Bryan Ferry at the start of the song before kicking into a great little pop song. Also 'For The Price of A Cup of Tea' is another pop gem, but in all honesty i've only had the record 24 hours- so its likely that the running order of favourites will change over the next few weeks- but if your curious get it, it's really rather good.

Belle and Sebastian are the voice of non-ned Scottish youth.

not the scotland i am familiar with, dude.
they have fans, sure, but fuck that.
i like one or two of their songs, but i cannot remember the last time anyone scottish put them on in my presence.

maybe you mean the voice of scottish indie kid youth, or something similarly limited?

I too am a big fan of the new record. Waitress was my favorite thing they did, but I think this album does a good job of merging the hyperpop of Waitress with their more traditional stuff. My favorites so far are "White Collar Boy" and "Sukie in the Graveyard."

I saw them back in October and they were really good, nice string section and top notch renditions of a variety of their stuff, even if the crowd only wanted to hear Sinister era stuff.

The new album has taken a bit longer to grow on me than the last, but two track have stood out hugely for me. "The Blues Are Still Blue" is awesome. And I'll frequently play it three or four times in a row (something I haven't really done with a favorite song since high school). It reminds me quite a bit of T-Rex, which I assume was their intention and, I think, a lovely direction for Belle and Sebastian to aim for. And "Sukie in the Graveyard" is one of their most danceable songs yet.

I'll be seeing them live next month with the New Pornographers. Definitely some major good time potential in that pairing. So far I've seen one very poor concert by B&S (the pre-Storytelling tour) and one truly amazing concert by them (the Dear Catastrophe Waitress tour).

I got "The Life Pursuit" at the weekend and I'm really loving it. The production seems a lot more robust than the bits of their earlier work I'm familiar with, while the songs seem more up-beat and poppy, which is a good thing. I think my favourite track so far is White Collar Boy which bounces along in a very satisfactory kind of way.
