I know this isn't a particularly popular stance, but ...
... I completely agree that an 'Operation' designed to permit a government to slaughter an uncountable amount of [presumably] innocent people is asinine to say the least. However, we don't know for certain where this operation is going.
That being what it is, I'm incredibly concerned, but completely unwilling to jump to conclusions about precisely what's going to occur next. I've planned for the worst, but I hope and pray for the best.
The unfortunate thing is, politically speaking, for Bush to do anything, whatsoever, it was necessary to create as ambiguous a target as possible. Elsewise, for instance, it wouldn't be possible to do anything with the Taliban - or any other power - that shelters, feeds, or tranports terrorists. Literally, impossible. He's going to be held to his word, utterly and completely, and therefore cannot afford a verbal mis-step that puts him in the position of going back on his word were another course of action to become more prudent than the original assumptions seemed to indicate. This is quite frightening, and the potential for disaster is massive. However, to assume this is going to result in the U.S. throwing force all over the place without any process or evidence is still jumping the gun. So, let's hope our fears about Bush and his cabinet's plans are entirely unfounded.

Optimism has a point. We're doing a serious disservice to ourselves and each other if we permit cynicism to fill in the blanks for us.
