Listening to music on drugs

Everyone knows that drugs can enhance your listening pleasure. But what drugs do what?

I'm afraid I can provide only two answers.

The Ganja: Mmm...weed. For some reason, when even the most down-to-earth people smoke pot, they turn into crappy versions of Bill and Ted the minute someone mentions music. I've seen it happen.

To me, weed helps you understand music as a language better. Like you can understand what the song is trying to get across. I can listen to any type of music while stoned and love it. So long as it's skillfully done.

LSD: With LSD you ARE the song. One of the first times I tripped, I was with my pal Danforth, walking around downtown in the middle of the night when we came across a music store that had a band practicing inside. We sat outside, unable to leave the music. I don't want to say that the five minutes passed in seconds, because it was more like time stopped having any particular meaning when we were listening. It was really long and really short at the same time.

I could achieve this feeling without LSD, but only in the rarest occasions. Like when I was playing in a huge and very skilled symphony, and everything was perfectly balanced (something that's hard to achieve when you're in highschool. Hell, most of the college symphonies I've been in can't do this reliably).

I've done plenty more drugs, but I haven't sat down and listened to music while on them. I'm usually out and about. So list all your ideas on what music does to you on various drugs.

I should mention that the band Danforth and I were transfixed by was playing country music. And still, we couldn't move a muscle until the song was over.

Hmm. I don't have much experience with drugs (mostly from personal disinterest), but a couple of my few times smoking weed, I was listening to the album Polydistortion by GusGus, and I swear that it sounded waaaaaaaaaaaaay better stoned than anytime I've listened to it sober. I actually checked that record out the other day while I was sorting old cds, and it really is not that good at all.

The most effect that acid has had on music that I was listening to at the time was:
-When a trumpet came out of my throat while listening to The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn at a party, and...
-When I completely lost my ability to understand English and the song Nomads by High Llamas became the most interesting curiosity in my universe.
IMHO, nitrous oxide has a stronger effect when listening to music than even LSD. Nitrous has completely sucked me into the music before. Loss of time and space and all that jazz. Of course, NO2 is worse for you and kills all kinds of brain cells...but whattaya gonna do?

Actually Nitrous Oxide doesn't kill off brain cells or anything like that. Where'd you hear that?

Hey, it's still used in some dental offices as anesthesia.

Ecstasy = "Young hearts run free"
LSD = "Lost in music"
Ketamine = "Rasputin"

Shouldn't this thread be called: LISTENING TO DRUGS ON MUSIC?

And is there any other way?

"Actually Nitrous Oxide doesn't kill off brain cells or anything like that. Where'd you hear that?"

Would be true if people did it right, but few do. The dentist mixes NO2 with oxygen before giving it to you. Most people huffing balloons take it straight. Which cuts off the oxygen flow to the brain, which results in cell damage.

Not to mention a large amount of what's going around as Nitrious these days, isn't. A lot of time it's industral, and posoiness, gasses instead.

Very true. Come to think of it, all the ways to get fucked up on items found at Wal-mart that I can think of (you know, whippets and robo-tripping) are really bad for you. Take that to heart, kids. Pay good money for good drugs. They won't kill you as fast.

Yes. LSD LSD LSD. You ARE the music. You are IN the music. The music is YOU. Each note is a seperate REALITY that you are INSIDE OF. Each note is a STEP. LSD LSD LSD, boy do I love thee, especially when I'm listening to some tunes.

Drugging on music to listen?
Listening on drugs to music?
Musicing on listening to drugs?

With drugs I can listen to music that normally I have to be in a patient mood for. I usually don't use this oppurtunity to do so because I usually put on Black Sabbath or Bongzilla or something of that ilk. I've also been trying to listen to nothing but heavy metal when I get stoned (which has been harder cuz my girlfriend hates the metal, which bothers me quite a bit) because I feel that it's a lost art and most all my friends listen to bullshit hippy-esque rock or Sublime, which usually makes me want to punch them because I just wanna listen to Slayer and they're all like "why can't you just mellow out?" Call themselves punks...
On acid I tend to listen to Primal Scream, until it gets turned off by one of my friends to listen to Def Leppard which makes me want to get all stabby and shit and once again my hippy ass friends try to mellow me out by playing bullshit hippy rock or Sublime. Acid also made me cry, very hard, about three or four times during the AC/DC behind the music.

CK, I think you must rock more than any other person on the planet.
(apart from Lemmy, no one rocks more than Lemmy.)

My stories of drugs and music.

Stoned is kinda a default setting for me, listening to music stoned never gave me a huge kick and I hate most stoner music anyway.
But my First Pill was at an Orbital gig. By the time they played Satan I was a whirling blur of dancing and smiling. Nice.

First acid trip was at Leftfield at glastonbury. Oh My God. Didn't know them at the time and was just begining to get into dance music as something you could love as opossed to it just being beepy shit. Came up half an hour in during release the pressure.
More bluring of dancing and magic.
Wow.

But beware the wrath of the wrong music played to people on drugs. One night we had come back from a club wired and still bouncing round the room when my flatmates very stoned B/F decided we needed a jazz introduction.
Oops.
That went badly.

Hmm. I've only tripped one time and it wasn't that much of a trip so I don't know about acid and music.

Shrooms - Right when I'm starting to feel it the music I'm listening to usually sounds incredible. I've never had this thing you guys are talking about where you become the music, but with shrooms I've felt like you can actually feel the music in the room, intertwining with the mood. But almost ANYTHING can sound good - the last time I shroomed my friends and I listened to this crap ass "native rhythms" cd my friend had bought at Wal-Mart and we thought it was incredible while we were peeking. We still laugh about that.

Ecstasy - Well damn music sounds great then.
I remember the first time I rolled, we were all coming up and one of my friends said, "I NEVER want this song to end." And we realized we all agreed with him.

But I love smoking pot and listening to music. I think everyone should get high and listen to side 2 of Abbey Road at least once. It's a wonderful experience. But there's a lot of music that sounds great while you're high and it depends on my mood. I have definitely bought albums, listened to them and thought, "Damn, I bet this sounds GREAT when you're high."

With both shrooms and weed, I've also really enjoyed getting really into the music and dancing and just feeling this sensuality tied with the music come over me.

Methinks I'd love to check out the acid/music connection sometime.

Cherry: Yes. There's no other feeling that comes close to it. And it's so hard to get anywhere else.

Take caution, though. If it's your first time taking a lot of acid, listen to music that one would chill to. Nothing to hard or edgey. Lots of melody a plus.

Cherry, I don't agree with Johnny at all, listing to something hard and edgy, like Guns 'N' Roses, cuz G'N'R fucking rule when your on acid (not that they don't outside of it). And when I'm tripping, I don't want hardly any melody going on (melodic music can be listened to any time, but only on acid can I actually enjoy the likes of Throbbing Gristle).
Thank you Uncle Retrospective, that's quite possibly the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me.

...discovered electronic industrial (ebm, etc) when I smoked weed...no other music that I heard (san symphony) had so much layering to it. Haujobb, Funker Vogt, Velvet Acid Christ, Front Line Assembly, etc. were some of the mainstays. For a while that's just about all we did. Fucking amazing.

Also going to Twilo in NY and rolling with Sasha and Digweed, Dave Ralph, Parks and Wilson was amazing too. Never thought I'd be around a few hundred people there and see everyone be so touchy and happy to see each other.

Other than that never really sat down to music with acid. Plenty of other things were going on then.

Sure, that can be fun for a themed trip, but what about for someone's first trip? Maybe I'm making broad assumptions here, but Cherry doesn't strike me as the type who'd gain solace from "Get in the Ring" while in the midst of suspicions of insanity. Acid does weird things to some people the first time, and it's good to have comforting music nearby. Blankets, too.

You'd think so, but the first time I met her we all just sat around listening to the live album and singing along (except for Kooky, cuz I don't think she really dug G'n'R all too much, or at least didn't know any of the words [and I think DJ Oi just pretended to know the words to seem cool]). Exterminator by Primal Scream does kick ass for acid however, you can really feel all the music then; in fact, I'd probably recomend that more than G'n'R for a first time type thing.

You know CK it has been my personal experience that many Brits do not understand the magic that is GN'Fuckin'R....

Though I think for a first-time acid trip I'd probably prefer something more ambient. Mais qui sait?

If you smoka the ganja, put on de Dub, mon. Aswad - A New Chapter of Dub is quite possibly the best music I have ever heard hi. Its specificly designed for it, in fact, for trancing with pot. When it comes to weed, you can't go wrong with Rasta. I also reccomend prog rock for this. King Crimson, early Rush, Genesis, Yes, the deeper and more layered the better.

Of course, give me a couple hits of acid and some rolls and turn me loose with some hard deep psi-trance anytime for the peak in musical spiritual ecstatic bliss. I mean, really, its hard to beat that. Or put on Vegas. That'll work all on its own.

I never cared much for coke. Maybe with metal. Not really my style.

As for N02, let me just set that one straight. Buy ISA cartriges at your local porn store (its sold as a sex aid, too) or at 1percent.com. They're the cleanest. Crack into balloon or large canister. Hit a full lung full. Hold for 20 seconds. Breathe. Repeat as necessary. Take a B6 suppliment if you do it alot. There is no danger if you aren't foolish with it. Be careful with masks and tarps, as its easy to accidently asphyxiate yourself. Stick to the one shot crackers and you'll be fine.

That being said, N02 is fabulous. I use it as a meditation aid sometimes. Dancing or trancing to music, its like a shot of instant mind clearing one-with-the-vibe bliss. I go further with just that one sometimes than with psychedelics, which says alot.

Cop Killer: I'm beginning to think you rock harder than I ever could.

Cherry: Ambient...yeah, that's not bad. Try some triphop, if you're into it at all. The thing to remember is, if LSD does to you what I think it does as far as music is concerned, you will feel whatever the song feels. You are the song. When it gets melancholy, you do to. When it soars, so do you. When it crashes and breaks down into insanity...well, if you're not expecting it, and you're not into feeling like you're losing all hold on reality, it can be a bad trip. Which is why I'm hesitant to listen to classical music while tripping. It's got too much stuff to handle, I think. One of my favorites is Bach's Tocatta and Fugue (you've heard it, it's only got the most recognizable opening in classical music), but it's so full of madness and passion and who knows what else that I have no idea what it'll do to me. Sounds like an experiment...I have to give it a shot sometime. Gotta find some acid first, though. I hate moving. You lose all of your connections.

cusm: coke doesn't go with metal (except for the hair variety, and that's only out of association), coke goes with eurotrash dance music. "Real" metal (Slayer, Venom, Motorhead etc.) goes best with pot, cuz, really, prog really sucks and reggae isn't nearly as cool as everyone says it is.
