I remember Haus, ages ago, muttering something along the lines of "I'm not sure whether or not I'd like to hang out w/ Grant Morrison" provoked by one of GM's harebrained ideafests, which included the zany notion that we could sort out the Bin Laden problem by shipping him off to the Playboy mansion. Now, I don't know whether GM would make a less than irritating mate or not, but I'm not sure I'd write him off over something like this when, IRL, I have many friends/aquaintances/colleagues/blah who come out w/ stuff far, far worse and yet I still like them, don't really find them that irritating....etc.
So, is it just that many of us expect something better from Barbelith (and those that inspire[d] it)? Or do some of us just expect something better full stop?
How are you w/ people IRL? People who'd look at you as though yr brain had sprung a leak if you started cranking out the most basic politics/philosophies that inform the special Barbeverse.....
This isn't a "Hey, aren't we so much better!" post - I don't think we are - s'more along the lines of "How adaptable are you?" and a kinda "Where do you find yr pleasure in people?" type thing. |
