Hacktivism in the middle east

Israel has apparently been suffering a barrage of hack attacks since the start of the Palestinian uprising in September 2000.

In the words of DK Matai, Chief Executive of security firm mi2g:

"From a pro-Arab point of view it would be far more effective than sending in a suicide bomber."

So what do people think of this development? A new battlefield in the Israel/Palestine conflict or step toward a less bloody political conflict? And what do you think about hacktivism as a whole? Is it useful in expressing a political point? What do you think?

This thread on Metafilter is about pro-Israeli hacking of Palestinian sites (though I don't think any of the hacks are still up).
