International Criminal Court

...now exists! Well, on July 1st.

From one of the articles I read, it said that the USA's "no way in hell" stance actually inspired a lot of countries to ratify it ASAP. If only they could grab Kissinger....

...and the CNN website didn't have a single mention of this... then again, a lot of news sites seem to overlook this... I thought it would be bigger news. Bush is thinking of 'unsigning' the US from it, due to the chance that an American citizen could be prosecuted for war crimes.

It's not just any american Citizen it is his father and colin powell that they could prosecute. And they travel out of country all the time.

Hell the attack on afganistan could count as a war crime.

With that attitude every war is a war crime. We going to put every officer from every standing army on the dock? Good luck Kofi, you'll need it.

Ah, but Colin Powell has already been indicted of war crimes.

It's just a matter of The Hague not getting bombed if they nab him abroad.

Y'know what worries me?

That I posted - and meant, and still mean - that Colin Powell in Israel is preferable as many of the other top brass in America are too right-wing. FUCK!

The USA dosnt give a toss about international opinion or law. It never has. This is just one more international court for it to thumb it's nose at.

Quote from Noam Chomsky,(who is God), "9-11"

"....we should recognise that in much of the world the U.S. is regarded as a leading terrorist state, and with good reason.

We might bear in mind, for example, that in 1986 the U.S. was condemned by the wolrd court for "unlawful use of force" (international terrorism) and then vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution calling on all states (meaning the U.S.) to adhere to international law. Only one of countless examples."

Kissinger is safe.

While I was in the States last week, I saw Kissinger on the TV several times, in interviews. It was surreal - like seeing Goering on a Newsnight panel.

Not that the old bastard had any real argument to put forward. He was utterly taken apart by the opposite side.

I suspect that many Americans don't realise quite how the man is seen outside of the USA.

From a bill I saw last week, apparently he'll be in London at the Royal Albert Hall on the 24th or something. People are planning to be there to show their um.. opinion of the bastard.

Could a moderator tie this with the other international court thread?

I think pretty much all laws should be applied on a global scale. Standards of living as well which should be funded out of general global taxation.

Yes. And your point is..?

We going to put every officer from every standing army on the dock?

I wish.
