8:15 - 16:30

8x8 cubicle

I hate my job and thankfully it is over tomorrow.

The only downside is that I will no longer have internet access. Although that may not actaully be a real downside. I primarily use the internet to prevent myself from going postal.

Day shifts, this week 9:30 - 18:00

Large open plan office, with far too many loud people but now I have my super fast PC I can listen to music, which is nice.

I like my job, its a job you know. Nothing more nothing less.

But I'm off tomorrow and won't be back for awhile, so play nice kids. If your having people round don't have the music too loud and if your smoking remember to empty the ash trays at the end of the night..!

I don't have a cube, my office is open-plan, which is frankly worse. And my boss sits behind me. He's quite nice though.

i maintain my own personal space through sitting on my chair in an expansive way, spreading papers and books all over the nearby surfaces, and being noisily cynical at every opportunity

I work in a 1700 sq. foot store with lots of space. But I actually have to pay to be here. I'd much rather have a free cubicle.

Zoom.

another open plan office. my desk is big and open, but people always gather behind me and screech. I dont care much for screeching chicks, and this place is lousy with them

I work in a basement.

It's an I.T. office that's about 4m wide and maybe 20m long. There's four big desks in here, and some testing bays and shelves. No natural light - well, there's some, but not enough to count - and no air-conditioning, so while it's bastardly cold at the moment, I think it'll be hotter than Hades in summer. I constantly have my headphones on, even if nothing's playing, because it provides a great buffer between what's going on and myself.

And hell, I always have the Internet, don't I?

I'm not especially fond of it, no.

I'm supposed to be here from 9:30 -> 17:30, but often don't end up leaving the office until 7pm. Or later. Much later. Like tonight. Gah.

My office space could be much worse. It is open plan but I have like the best position ever. Right up in a corner screen facing away from all the other people. Which means no one can see what I'm doing - or not doing more to the point. Which rocks.
Super batcave openplan cubicle bliss.

Through some weird twist, I (and everyone else here; I'm not special) actually have an office. With a door that closes and everything. And of course it's set up so that my monitor is only visible from behind my desk.

And of course today with both bosses out I seem to be posting at a dramatically enhanced rate...

Re-Set

This is the third building I've gone through with this company (and I'm on my 5th manager). This time around I'm in a cubicle, my first, and stragely enough I like it. The walls are high, it's plenty big, the monitor is as well directed away from prying eyes. My job is really comfortable otherwise too. They know I show up to work stoned with some frequency, and don't much care, because I still find the glitches, and scare away the screaming customers with overly technical, overly snide answers. The owner of the company is a movie-poster buff, so we got a bunch to decorate the office with. The Ralph Bakshi LOTR poster was quickly moved into my cubicle. Here comes the bad part....

Right now I prefer being at my job to my home.

I live in a basement. The water heater in the attached laundry room is as old as I am, and more than twice as old as water heaters hould get. For the pat 2 weeks, it has been dumping water onto the floor, which has worked it's way through my entire room. The slumlords are my roommates' grandparents, and they won't do anything about it. I move at the end of May and need every penny, so I can't do anything about it except try and learn to like the smell of mold. And I haven't had a phone/net access there in months.

Please please please tell me I'm not the only one who has a better office life than home life? I'm at the point where I'm going to start bringing my dates here rather than home.

I work in one of the largest building's I've ever seen - horizontally. It's only one story.
Used to house part of IBM when they were, like, the shit. Designed by the same people who built the Pentagon. There's a hallway outside the newsroom that stretches over 100 yards in length, where it meets an equally long hallway that in turn meets an equally long hallway elswhere. Nice atriums and the cafeteria's pretty good too.
There are no walls in the newsroom - I can see reporters from six national publications without turning in my seat.
It's huge.
Which is nice, cuz a couple months ago, it was a warehouse without plumbing. (we used portapotties).
And before that, well, anthrax.

12ft x 8ft room that's bordered by electronics, media, and about 7 full bookcases. Spend an average of 10 hours working in it on a work day with the remainder of the time trying to get out of it. Unfortunately...I don't have an honest job at the moment, so this room IS my room. Put a bed in there and you see the dilemma...a self contained area with little space but hey, I got a view from the window...
