so it is rumoured. would anyone go to see them? is this the final hypocracy? - the band formed in reaction to the rock dinosaurs of the mid-70s playing reading? or is it irrelevent?

i saw them play phoenix 1996 and they sucked.

also at reading this yr:
Linkin Park
Cooper temple clause
Sex Pistols
Offspring
Blur
Prodigy
New Order
Garbage

i guess i won't be buying a ticket this year. i really can't remember the last good reading i went to which is incredibly depressing.
all the bands that are set to play this yr i have seen before with the exception of linkin park and cooper temple clause. and i really am not down with linkin park.

Well .. sounds like a bunch of arse all round, with an additional bunch of arse for John Lydon for once again ruining whatever slim chance of retaining coolness he had.

Almost makes one want to start a cheap, cheerful alternative event with a bunch of real rockin' bands on and free entry .. nah, the kids wouldn't go for it..

I had a massive arguement lasting about seven hours last weekend about this with two ex-pistols fans, nothing more depressing than them saying 'yeah but it felt like it mattered, but it didn't' well no, not now there doing this fellas, and then they try and justify the band selling out like this.

Sad, very sad.

I saw them at Peonix and regardless of whether or not they'd sold out they where shit.

Bowie on the other hand was sublime. And been around for longer and sold out more often.

Oh, I don't know. With all these manufactured bands around today, we need someone like the Sex Pistols to shake things up a bit...

Who cares? It's old men who were only ever a good singles band reforming to wring the last little bit of money out of something that was dead before Sid was finally lowered into the ground*

The Pistols were never going to live up to the expectations they aroused - so ever get the feeling you've been cheated?

Having said that, I wouldn't mind hearing the Leftfield remix of God Save the Queen

(*: This is a turn of phrase. Sid is actually circulating in the air conditioning at Heathrow as ashes, according to rock legend)

think it's a bit wrong headed to accuse the pistols of "selling out" -- that were practically a prefab band and selling out was all they ever did, it's just that johhny rotten is such a great ironist that they had this kickass attitude and scathing lyrics. but it's not like they were black flag or crass or minor threat or other bands whose value had to do with their negation of rocknroll economy.

you can certainly accuse them of being too old to rock hard enough, but making money and cheating people was their core concept from the get go. feeling ripped off by seeing them live would pretty much do them justice.

How does a band put together by their manager to make money sell out?

may I be the first to say; WWWHHH-AA-AATTT?

I hate it when bands I like do things I don't like.

I know what you mean, Riz. I love the Dropkick Murphy's and they're opening for the Pistols at that gig as well. The Sex Pistols have become the old guy in the bathroom with the coke that everyone just pretends to like.
