I don't know what the etiquette is on bringing old thread back up, but I've moved in and its very nice (IKEA Heaven )- I actually know where I live now. It's about 5 mins walk from Hobgoblin up Tulse Hill in the new flats up there. Just thought I would share that, I'm very happy today which is amazing since I got up at 6am....

I maybe asking if anyone wants to go out for a drink thats in the area, for no other than nobody will come and I can get back to my miserable no confidence self

I have another quick Brixton question, does anyone know where the post office is. Where would things be kept if they were recorded delivery but I wasn't home?

bear - if you don't have a phone directory, try www.yell.com. if the post office can't deliver something, they'll put a card through your door with the address of where to pick it up from.

will one of the brixton barbefolk please give bear a guided tour of the high street? at this rate, he'll never find the supermarket and starve to death

Hey Bear

I think the post office is on Ferndale Road.

If you walk down Brixton Road towards Oval past the tube station, past Sainsbury's Local, keep on going until you can see a pub on your left called The Goose. Turn left into that Road and keep walking until you can see the post office on your right.

I think that's as straight forward as I can make it. If you are collecting a parcel however, that is somewhere completely different, but they usually tell you what street the collection office is on. At times like this a London A-Z is really handy!

Hope that helps.

Thanx for the help - I was able to find it on Saturday morning (I couldn't wait it was a Buffy boxset). I went to the local post office and the guy gave me instructions, I forgot them by the time I'd left but all was well because I followed a postman to the sorting office and I had a weekend of Buffy

Nothing quite wakes you up in the morning like looking out your window and seeing around 7 police cars, lots of officers and some dogs - this is the first bit of real trouble I've seen in London, scary stuff. Went down the stairs in the flat and looked out the window to see two police marksmen with machine guns, I asked one of the officers and he said he couldn't tell us what was happening all he could tell us was that there had been a "fire-arm incident"

The police seemed to be enjoying it though...

Yikes...

And three people were stabbed a coupla days ago don't forget, just outside Woolworths I think. On the news they said the guy who did it was a 'care in the community' person (odd - it doesn't strike me as a very caring thing to do). Anyway, maybe that was just prejudice towards the mentally ill, can't believe the crap they tell you on the telly news. One of the victims was only 10.

If that's the same guy I'm thinking of, he was being chased by the police, looks like he didn't think he could get away so he started stabbing people at random to slow the cops down. They got him anyway, though. I have no idea whether he was any sort of care in the community patient, all I remember hearing was some witnesses who said "he didn't look right in the head" sort of things. Easy mistake for a journalist to make, turning this into a psychiatric report, uh huh.

Its pretty crazy really, I walk past that bus stop quite allot.

According to the urban75 board the gun thing is quite common, not quite what you want to hear but there you go, what can you do?

Carry a piece yourself? Hell, I never leave home without mine.

I also got handed a leaflet by - I assume - a plain clothes cop last night stating Cannabis is Still Illegal and detailing what happens if u r caught with herb. They seem to be backtracking a bit after the 'Commander Padlock's an Anarchist' scandal. Ahh, what a joy it is to be governed by The Daily Hate Mail.
