Anyone watching this series? 24. Its absolutely brilliant! Each episode is an hour in one day in the life of Jack Bauer. Last nights episode ended in a major twist that I wasn't expecting at all! Not since Babylon 5 have I been this engrossed in a long running TV show! The thing that makes the series especially endearing is that the lead character is not an all american hero. He's a complex character with many faults and makes mistakes. In fact I think everyone is probably as dodgy as hell!

I don't know anyone who is watching this show. None of my friends or family watch it, despite me raving about it. So, anyone here watching? And if not, why not?

Well you can count on me, you name it I watch it. Yeah last nights was pretty good, I kinda saw the twist coming but the kept making you think you were wrong the last part in the car was excellent when she got the telephone call. The show is very good at building tension, they've not finished filming the series yet in the states, but Keifer(sp) was already won a golden globe. I'm glad the suns came up though I was getting sick of the dark.

Watching it and loving it. Trashy exhilerating fun. I love the telegraphed jackknife twists, the pacy editing and totally unnecessary split-screen, the brain-meltingly excessive use of mobiles and the slightly breathy way Kiefer says everything.
Jack is so fucked. There's 18 more hours of this as well: How much more convoluted will this become to stretch out the plotline? Amnesia? Cloning?... Gaines is great as well, sort of a poor man's Michael Ironside.

I've read a rumour that Dennis Hopper will be coming in to play the evil mastermind behind the whole operation in later episodes. That'll be pretty cool if he does!

Whats the body count so far of relevant characters? (not counting the hundreds who died on the plane!) I make it 6. Thats one an hour! We've had

Word is out that there is another series up for consideration.

Apparently there were some misgivings about it and it was considered that by trying to do the same thing again the series would horribly over extend itself.

Word is that they are considering either shifting the focus of the cast so that Kiefer is no longer the lead or going to an entirely different scenario.

I will post later my full, ranting mess of thoughts about 24.

The word "trashy" is correct. The main problem I have is it prides itself on the realism of the real-time thing... but the rest of it is just ridiculous in its lack of realism. Thanks to the Fox website, I've skimmed the plot up to episode 18 (where the Americans currently are). All I'll say is this: if you think it's silly now, you just wait. There's a whole new plotline to come yet.

The other problem is that whilst it's all meant to take place in one day, it's a day that you remember an hour of at a time. If you sat and watched all 24 episodes back to back... the number of stupid characters and irritating deaths would just be brain-frazzling.

Well I still like it, silly is good - its not a true story so they can kill as many people as they want. Anways lots of people do die in 24 hours...

Hey Paleface! Can we please not have any american spoilers in your rant! You may hate the series but I don't want it being ruined for myself or others who enjoy it!

I haven't posted any of the spoilers. I could do, but I was careful not to. I don't think commenting on the direction of the series is a bad thing. I'm not going to post any spoilers because I entirely understand your point.

And I don't hate the series. It just irks me beyond belief. It's gripping, really well shot, well acted, and I still have an urge to see the next episode. It's just now I feel that's because I'm addicted, not because it's the greatest thing on telly.

[CTU have a punch-up]

"Hi. I'm Tony Almeida."
"With a name like that you must be a cabaret singer or a dodgy agent!"
"---"
"Welcome to CTU, where the world's most secure terrorist agency store their guns in flightcases in ikea filing cabinets, run computers with that OS you saw in Independence Day, and make REALLY SECURE phone calls on cellphones. Which are SO SECURE. Oh, and the open plan office helps with paranoia and letching at Nina."
"What do you do in CTU?"
"I sit at a desk and glare at people suspiciously."
"Hi, I'm Walsh, I run stuff, and I play an identical role in the superior West Wing"
"Oh yeah? Well I'm Xander Berkley, and I got stabbed by a homicdal shapeshifitng robot. The milk didn't make it, either"
"Pah"
"...AND I saw Ethan Hawke's dick in Gattaca"
"Oh. Well, I watched Ed Norton beat the shit out of himself. And what did you do, Jack?"
"I was in a film. With Corey Haim."
[long stunned silence]
"OK, you win, Jack".

The one big problem for those of us watching this in the UK is that the main selling point of the series is actually, as I think was pointed out elsewhere on the board, a bare-faced lie. It's not real-time. Each hour of story only takes 45 minutes.

No adverts.

Well watching here in canada the time runs the same as my vcr. I love the damn show. Its addicting. From what I heard the next season will focus on another day in Jacks life a few weeks later. Nothing happens in that season as it takes place when he's on vacation so most of it is just him and his wife on the beach complainning how hot it is. Occasionally someone will run by and Jack will just arbitrarilly shoot them, just incase. Just to keep the show interesting.

Yeah, I thought the show would have gone to Channel 4. Surprised it didn't, given the fact it kinda needs the adverts. Oh well.

And Dennis Hopper is not in it AFAIK.

I think any series 2 would have to be over 24 days or something, in the same way that the second series of 'Murder One' no longer followed one trial ALL the way through...

and just for the record, if they got to this Hopper thing, say 10 episodes ago, the series might have been salvageable. too much pressure to follow the 24 action-packed hour format killed the story, in my opinion.

now back to your regularly ended thread.

From what I've read the next season ,if there is one, will not be in the same format as this one. Each episode will take place in a 24 hrs time frame...just to keep the title on track.

Ps. Chavez Y Chavez is the character that Lou Diamond Phillips played in Young Guns which also had Keifer Sutherland (but not as Billy the kid as I erroneously recalled) as Doc. Holliday.

Anyone still watching? I still am, and loving it (even though I won't be able to anymore unless I find someone with a TV...)

This is the only thing I am actually watching on television at the moment.

Knight's Move

Finished. Which is nice.

Ultimately the last episode was impressive, but somehow lacking. It had all the right bits in it, which I won't go into as spoilers ahoy, but it left me feeling slightly empty, like it was an anticlimax now it was all over.

In the tv room of my college they are all watching an episode at least 7 hours back now, maybe more, and whilst I feel some sort of superiority there it wasn't the same as when they were twelve hours behind and I still had x hours to go. I think it may be like comedown from this televisual crack (as I think Paleface described it to me) but I feel like a character who has just achieved revenge on his mortal foe. I have gained the pinnacle of what I thought was acheivement, but yet it wasn't what I hoped it would be.

The series still rocks like a barrel load of monkeys on PCP wailing with a ninja on bass, and I am definitely doing a midnight-midnight lock in with some friends...but...
