Image Comics: 10 years after

So here we are, 10 years after those cheesy Mile High Comics ads lingered at the back of Marvel books haileing new heroes such as "Spawn," "The Savage Dragon," and "Shadowhawk." Do you think that Image was a revolutionary force in independant comics, or just a crippled Marvel clone, fated to die in the great comics upheaval (low sales)of the mid-90's?

Think of Image in it's three stages: the beginning, liefeld/lee overload; the middle, thinned out selection, people who are now in their 20's give up on Spawn; and now, on the rise with many more small titles and still an independent superpower.

and is anybody here also waiting for the Image 10th anniversary hardcover book that is coming out god knows when?

Image got smart because they started treating writers more as equals. Bringing Alan Moore and Warren Ellis into their go-nowhere cloned ideas (wild cats is xmen, stormwatch is jla, right?) turned them into amazing works. Plus they have the best creator/publisher deals, and offer a lot of freedom. I think we can all agree that two party systems are a problem, Image has become something to be proud of. Even if it had anything to do with Bobby Leifield in the beginning there.

think image will stick around, or be doomed to the fate of a lot of other independent publishers?

personally, i can't see titles like "spawn" or "tsd" being published under any other banner. time will tell.

and viva to the non-wildstorm/extreme image!
