www.zamzar.com is very good for converting audio - not sure about video.

And meanwhile, anyone know how I set up an autoforward of everythung that comes into my Hotmail inbox to Gmail? I'm sick of having to go to a fucking internet cafe every time I want to check my email on a work day. Hotmail's blocked, Gmail ain't).

Cheers for the heads-up on the URL, I'll give it a try.

Regarding Hotmail, I'm pretty sure that there's no easy way to either forward emails automatically when they arrive or move all your emails in bulk to your GMail account. Probably an attempt by MS to make it awkward for hotmail customers to leave. However, I think there are some third party websites which can forward your email from Hotmail to GMail, but I think it involves handing over your password (I presume the website simply logs-in as you then forwards each email 'by hand'.) Pretty dodgy IMHO.

Perhaps there are ways into hotmail rather than through the normal site, which is presumably blocked by IP address by your SysAdmin. Perhaps look for something on msn.com or the like.

I'm just getting to the stage of writing up my phd and my supervisor has requested I stop using excel for graphs and charts. While I can see the rationale behind this (excel charts are a bit ugly), I'm somewhat limited by the lack of other options on the university system.

However as IT tell me they can install freeware on my PC, I was wondering if you lovely 'lithers know of any good freeware for making decent looking scientific-grade chartsngraphs?

gg, I suggest you take a look at R. It's a rather daunting programming environment for statistics and graphing. However, there are several graphical UIs for it, including one which works as an add-on for Excel. This should allow you to get started without wasting too much time learning new things. OTOH, if you have enough time left before your deadline, it's probably worth learning to use R from the command line.

Thanks luminocity, I'll download it tonight and have a play around.

So I am planning a move from Canada to the UK, and, due to limitations of how much I can carry, I don't think my beloved desktop is making the trip with me. However, I'd like to bring some of his guts along (hard drives, video card, motherboard) and buy a new case and power supply once I am settled. Is this doable? Are there compatibility issues I don't know about?
