how good are morrison's 3 issues? online they're quite expensive and i want to know if its worth shedding out £10.

I dig 'em. A lot. If you can find them, go for it.

If it's a tenner for all three that's about what they were when they came out. The art is nice, the ideas are fun, if you're keen on Flex and Sebastian O and The Invisibles this mines a similar furrow.

They're all right, but the Ann Nocenti series that span off from them is utterly mighty.

If you want Nocenti's run I have them, are you in the UK? We could sort something out.

I think Nocenti's run lasted about 16 issues. But be warned - they are something of an acquired taste...

On the bright side, they can often be found for 25p or so in the bargain bins of your local comic store, so are easier to try before you commit than many.

Like I say, I have the full Nocenti run that I'd be happy to forward on for postage costs only. On the basis that if it wasn't to taste it was similarly forwarded on.

I bought the three Morrison Kid Eternity issues in a shop in Brighton for not much money at all..

..it's ages since I read them. The art's lovely, but it starts off as very much a 'hey lets do a weird Vertigo comic that doesn't make sense' kind of a thing. I liked the character, but all the heaven and hell / urban legends / jack the ripper stuff was pretty hackneyed. What I did like was a)the attendees of the yuppie dinner party being massacred and b)the way the third issue turned into a sort of superhero/chaos magick crossover thingy where they had to race around charging chaospheres and such like before the end of the world..

..so, er, quite cool, but probably not worth paying a fortune for.

Morrison's Kid Eternity was great, terrific. It's like, the cheat sheets to everything else he's written. The stuff about Tawa Taka, running through time from his immortal tormentor, shades of Gideon Stargrave, and every action story ever, really. The art is the best painted stuff I've ever seen. Not to spit on McKean, but Fegrado's so damn consistent. Yes, it's confusing and self indulgent, but what is the self, anyway? And isn't that part of Grant's magic? He really speaks to you, you know?

I enjoyed the Golden Age, Morrison, and Nonceti runs of Kid Eternity about equally. Which is to say, not at all.

I usually like Fegredo's work, but his Eternity just seems a little sloppy. The Philips art and Nonceti's plotting had me hooked for awhile, but her dialogue drives me up the fucking wall. I'm amazed at how many great artists she's hooked up with. Like Haus said, Nonceti's run is an acquired taste. I have friends who swear by it.

It's really too bad, because I always loved the concept and look of Kid Eternity. Maybe someday someone will do something worthwhile with him.

why why why was Noncenti's cancelled? so far from what i've read her writings as good as anything i've read by morrison. more people should have bought this comic at the time.

Was it cancelled? Looked like it was just ended. Dunno, gave it all away couple of years ago. I liked her Daredevil series much better.

the reason i think it was cancelled was because of poor sales according to my web search. but i wasn't reading comics at the time so i can't be sure. What numbers does her run on 'Daredevil' cover by the way?

Hey im new. Could anyone fill me in on what the miniseries is about? It looks fairly interesting but most of Morrisons stuff usually goes over my head (thats why i read this site). Thanks

Oohhh. Just redread Kid Eternity for the first time in a decade and reckon it is self-indulgent (but so was Flex...), but noticed at the end the guy who is now inhabiting the preacher's body is sent "South" to do Chaos' work. and he's called Jerry... Not too far off Jesse...
Is this a lovely example of Grant retconning Preacher before it was even written?

Ann Nocenti wrote Daredevil #236, 238-245, 247-257 and 259-291. She also wrote a Daredevil strip in Marvel Holiday Special #2. She said in an interview that DD #268 was her favourite issue.

Kid Eternity trade paperback coming in, um, January or February '06! I forget. It's definitely one of those. I'm betting on the latter.

Nocenti or Morrison trade, tho?

I liked the first issue of the Morrison KE well enough, but never really pursued it. I ended up with a bunch of the Nocenti series for about four bucks, but I ended up cutting them up for collage purposes; the covers were beautiful, but the interior art reeked and I just couldn't get into the stories - they always seemed like substandard Shade the Changing Man. Think I like Sean Phillips's painted work more than his pen and ink shizzat.

Wierd, Kid Eternity is already in the local comic shop, and has been for ages. I didn't know it was hard to get.
