Uh, speaking as an American, and of course, I can't be the representative for all Americans (though the idea does have its appeal), as far as I know, I've never unilaterally hated Brazilians.
That said, as Ierne correctly points out, the U.S. is a bit of a vast, insulated country, and plenty of Americans (some of them in my own family!) see and apparently feel no need to pay one bit of attention to things/people/places/events that are not locally related to the States. "It's the best country on Earth. Why would you ever want to leave?" is a sentiment I have heard on more than one occasion. There's a lot of ignorance on the part of Americans in terms of other cultures, as well as geography. Most Americans I know wouldn't be able to give you some basic geographic or political facts about Canada, in spite of the fact that its our neighbor to the north. (I wouldn't know too many myself had I not lived in Canada, to be honest with you.)
That said, what Ierne said about such stereotypes as the fat white american belying a very diverse ethnic culture is also very true. There are many peoples and many cultures here, and so it's difficult to lump us all into the same boat. Other than, of course, "American."
And really, it's a bunch of goofs on an Audiogalaxy forum. Much love to Brazil and Brazilians from Chicago. |
