Psychoactive tempos and sounds

I was talking to a friend of mine last night and we were discussing making music. He was telling me that 112 BPM is a mystical tempo i.e. it is useful for causing trance states. Apparently the celts used to use it in drumming. Anyway, anyone else know any good hypnotic tempos and perhaps a little about their use in history? I am also interested in psychoactive sounds such as brainwave synchronisation.

Actually, the mystical tempo, perfect for imprinting is 77 bpm or 144 bpm. The sounds heard will etch on the brain. As well, those woosh noises common in trance open up the mind and activate alpha(?) waves. Hence the reason why rave is so popular, and know one knows why.

I'm interested in practicing some music/magic...anyone else?
