Just got laid off on Friday.

My whole weekend has been the film "Lost Weekend."

Anyone else in between jobs?

pointless and uncalled for

No, but I will be. I have less than two weeks left with this company and then it's back to heckling the agencies for the soonest start at the right price.

I'm thinking that it's time to work out how and where to start hawking my meagre photographic skills as well.

i worked day jobs in printing and graphic design for the last few years, and now that i'm in college full time i can't devote myself to that anymore. and apparently, i'm either too old or too dumb to learn how to use a fucking cash register. that's how the business owners in this outdoor mall, er city feel anyhow.

Between jobs? My situation would be better described as perpetually unemployed.

I guess I'm not smart enough to cook hamburgers at McDonald's or stock/bag groceries at Kroger.

Current plan is to scour the newspapers of this good city, collect unemployment, and pick up the occasional shift over at Das Koffeehaus.

I remain stupidly optimistic.

I got fired from Walgreen's a couple of weeks ago for giving massive discounts on merchandise to my friends. I have no idea where I'm going to get another job, but I do need one as I'm $12,000 in debt from this car I hit. I thought my ma was gonna kill me, but at least this time I'm going to school.

I'm slaving away at Starbux, looking for gainful employment that will get me a permanent work visa at the same time, so underemployed for now, unemployed in June... The last few years have been a period of looking for a 'real job' and then heading back to serving coffee for a while, then quitting and looking for a 'real job'.... I think it's time to head back to school soon...

Good luck in your job hunt.

I quit school last week. The ammount of work i was doing was akin to being unnemployed anyway. Now no tolerable dayjob (book/video shop etc.) will have me, so it looks like i'm gonna be like this for a while.

I'm currently functionally unemployed: I work in a photo lab in a mall, maybe 15 hours a week for minimum wage, which translates to mutant peanuts no self-respecting elephant would have anything to do with. Thanks god I moved back in with the folks (the LAST thing i thought i'd hear myself say)

2 years ago, I translated my artistic resourcefulness to cash via a tiny marketing firm. They imploded as the boss's wife went nuts, and I found myself loosely partnered with one of my best friends (a talented, if unmotivated, artist). He screwed me for information and money (out of what appears to be wet-brain jealousy), and I now have no idea how to get back to plying my trade for profit. I could seriously use any break, and have no idea how to facilitate said luck. any ideas would be appreciated. and good luck to the rest of you.

I am on my last two days of unemployment, and this one's almost over. I enter the working world again on Wednesday.

I hope I like my new job. I tend to fall into jobs & stay in them out of sheer inertia, until I just can't stand it anymore & have to cut myself loose usually in overdramatic fashion. This job I handpicked in a sense, factoring in everything I thought was important... now that I think about it, that's kind of weird that I'm the age that I am & this is the first job that I've deliberately chosen for myself. Sort of like the first time you buy your own clothes... ugh, now I have to try not to bring back to mind the first horrendous outfits I got for myself at the mall...

I too am travelling on the glorious road of the unemployed. Im looking for something creative but outside of the computer graphics industry. In Montreal.

I'm in the seven week trial period for a self-employment program that could lead to great things. If I don't get through the red tape, I'll be attending school. So, things are looking up, even if I am jobless.

Anyone on unemployment should check out which programs may be available to them. You may even be able to take a few courses or go to school full time.

I just recently started working again after wasting a month of unemployment. I really, really wish that I'd taken advantage of that time. At least I have a job that I can fuck around at now...

I got laid off on the last Friday in January and worked a LOT of part time hours at the group home I had been at. Then, a full-time job opened up and I took it....then Gek helped me become the director at the group home I was working at and now I have a new full-time job....just one job for the first time since college.

So, good luck, try not to lose faith and treat finding a new job as your full-time job.

And I'll offer Gek some milk and cookies tonight to get you a job you'll like!

You have my envy. My local coffeehouse wouldn't take me. (Weeps with shame)

I quit my job at the bookshop in my local mall because it was turning into a frigging Ionesco play. I have no regrets, but I am now quite poor. I am told I would make an ideal temp, however.

I have the feeling that anyone who can say this is unlikely to remain unemployed. Myself, I am staring at redundancy at the end of June unless a job-fairy comes along in the meantime. I'm spending a lot of time clapping.

What might be interesting is what jobs people were doing before - see if there's a market trend. Leading on from that, what's the best area for the technically gifted to be sharpening their mouse-claws for?

I'm a sort of journo-sub.ed-manager type, if it helps. Where I'm headed... ?

Good luck; get down the dole office as soon as you can, don't be proud; I waited two months and I'm now Officially Fucked, financially. Think of all the tax you've been paying... Register with as many recruitment companies as possible, leave aside one day a week for getting off your head, and take up a new sport. Maybe.

Learn to effectively hector any agencies that you sign with. Despite a continuing employment downturn in the city I still manage to get reassigned within a week almost every time.

The faster you build a reputation, the more favourable the contract offers they come to you with.

Then again, do you really want to take the advise of a career temp?
