He's absolutely right - if you can direct people to the thing that you want to change, or specify the reason you want to make the alteration (this goes for moderators too, you know) - even if REALLY BRIEFLY, then it will speed up the process for everyone. For example, each one of the following helps us decide whether or not to agree:
"Changed URL to link"
"Because it's a dumb post"
"Mis-spelt anachronism in second last sentence"
"Decided I no longer wished to advocate involuntary castration"
"Was very drunk and am now very sorry!"
"Because it's a duplicate post"
"Removed libellous allegation about Elton John"
etc
