I'm interested in becoming a member of either the Shadow Lounge (www.theshadowlounge.com) or its new sister club, Sweet Suite (www.thesweetsuite.com) - and am intrigued by the concept in general. Any 'Lithers have experience of either place?

The Shadow Lounge? Do you get to plot world domination there?

Never heard of it, but I have just found out that my new flat has a gay club right across the round (as does the flat I live in now). I think the Gods are trying to tell me something

not being silly, just curious: what benefits do you get from being a member of a club? do you have to be accepted, or just be willing to pay up? and if its the former, what sort of criteria do they look for? who makes the picks, the owners or other members?

(I realize I could go to the sites, but my free time comes in short bursts sometimes and would take ages to find the info)

The Shadow Lounge seems to be members & non-members, so I don't know what you get for your membership, apart from probably discounts and stuff and maybe the odd special night. Sweet Suite, I can't tell, I imagine the same.

If you go there often enough I suppose it might be worth it, and you do get on the mailing lists, so you'll find out about things regularly.

they both have godawful websites BTW, though the little disappearing-mouseover-block thing on the front of the Shadow Lounge site is quite cute.

I'll tell you, if I was gay and British, I would definitely want to be a member of the Shadow Lounge.

if only....

Looks like membership at the Shadow Lounge gets you preferential free entry with up to four guests during the week and one at weekends - plus priority getting a table, waiting service, etc. The more expensive Sweet Suite has its own Supercollective-style VIP area...

Hmm...

Well... going along for an 'introductory drink' at Sweet Suite this evening to see what it's all about. An expensive variant of the timeshare-esque hard-sell, I suspect...

Wait! If Ganesh doesn't return by the appointed time, we'll have to suspect the worst: The secret bosses behind the Shadow Lounge have kidnapped him and are currently using some sort of stylish yet terrifying form of hypnotism on him!!

Who's with me???

Wandered past Sweet Suite yesterday, looks tres posh from the outside, so what's it like, intrepid boy reporter?

Well... it was pretty slick, if a little 'Austin Powers'. The appeal of the place - for me, anyway - is the possibility of finding somewhere reasonably a) pleasant, b) central and c) quiet enough to hold a conversation (on a Friday evening) without shouting.

Refreshingly little hard-sell - but ended up joining anyway. Got a temporary card (while waiting for the official one) which allows me and up to five guests free entry any night of the week.

Fancy coming along one evening?

We can recommend the entire range of their Sex In The City cocktails although their names meant nothing to me. And the "revealing" Vivienne Westwood outfits the handsome staff had to wear were lovely.
Saw no celebs though (but we did spot an extremely orange and leathery Dale Winton elsewhere later). Oh, the thrill of it all...

Two very sexy lesbians sharing a banquette in the members' lounge, while we were there. And plenty of attractive female staff as well as male.
