Is the film a 3 or 5 or 7 hour American male castrtion fear tale. Slug along a razor blade dead giveaway apparently.

So that whole 'based on heart of darkness, exploration of mankinds inner self created evil' was just made up by all the reviewers who were scared of getting their dicks cut off?

More seriously though, perhaps there something in it about evil and the disempowerment of people (men) when faced by the animal within. I can't really give anything of a better opinion - its been a long while since I've seen it.

Slightly off topic - is it worth getting the redux version when it comes out on video/dvd. I already have the origional, so are the extra hours worth paying out for?

Castration in terms of loss of power, I guess. I never got the physical castration bit from it, however.

The Redux is worth getting. It's different from the original in some subtle ways, I think - it gives the whole thing a better feel, I reckon...

I just watched redux last weekend.

Willard is, I think, a substantially different character in it.
He's got a bit of a sense of humor, and he drinks a *lot*.

I can also understand why they took the French plantation scene out of the final. It's a bit long, it slows down the sense of voyage into darkness, and it's damn hard to understand what they're saying (and what they're talking about). If you don't know the history of Dien Ben Phu, you are, as my mother would say, in schtuck.

There's extra stuff about Kilgore that's fun, and some extra Kurtz stuff too.
