Will try very hard to be there. (All depends on being able to contact my mother- not to borrow money, but to get hold of money she has which I've left with her for safe keeping because I'm useless with the stuff.)
CHEESE! PUB! BOOZE!
...sorry... low key, low key...

I'm HERE! I actually slept on the plane and don't feel too jetlaggy!! Whee hoo. Screw Low Key! (Just joking. I think I'm still low keying it...)

We walked around Hyde/Kensington parks this afternoon, lovely sunny day (I was expecting clouds, maybe rain, so how wonderful to have the flowers, the hilariously VICTORIAN Albert Memorial which I guess I'd never looked at before. Whoa.

See any londoners Wed. By the way, how will I know you???? I have purple glasses, but am otherwise not particularly standoutishly describable; my partner will be with me; he is a very tall man (6 ft. 6") with long brown curly hair in a pony tail.

We'll likely still be dressed in our semi conservative court gear, so don't look for hipsters.... Maybe one of you can spray paint BARBELITH over the booth/table you're at?
alas, "i knew him, horatio..."

Well this is the real trick isn't it, i still think that one of the basic test for finding other 'lithers should be stubling about asking every one in the pub first... but i shouldn't think you''l have too much problem spotting us. And if you have any problems just look for the one that looks like a vague cross between Michel foucault and Hunter s thompson....

Oh and as i said at the beginning the chesire cheese is a bit of a cavernous warren so you might have to wander around a bit before you spot us

well i'm getting incredibly confused about the name/location of the pub.

as far as i can figure out: it's the cheshire cheese pub, on little essex street, wc2, which is just off the strand at aldwych. is that right? 6pm?

can someone confirm this?

alas - will be good to meet you.

I've got very short bleached hair and will be wearing either a biker jacket or a long leather coat. But I've met a fair few of these reprobates before, so look for a crowd of remarkably sophisticated drunks...

Oh, fucking fucking buggery.

Have just spent a frustrating three-quarters-of-an-hour and fifteen quid trying to find the Cheshire Cheese. Got away from (very pleasant) dinner in W10 around nine-ish and ordered a taxi. All I could remember was "the Strand, Fleet Street end" and that it was a vaguely Tudor-looking place.

Fruitlessly trawled the length of the Strand (or so I thought) peering out the windows, until I got to Fleet Street. Wasn't sure if the Strand continued beyond it (all looked a bit modern to be the Cheshire Cheese) or what, but eventually gave up (funds and bladder both threatened collapse) and returned to Charing Cross.

So... sorry, Alas. Was keen to meet you, but the pub proved a tad difficult for this particular drunken imbecile to find.

Fucking fuck.

oh no! We were wondering where you were. Bugger.

It is on Fleet Street and there's not much to give it away except a sign outside - but the taxi driver should have known!

Sorry to miss you, and sorry you left your previous party for nothing.

are you kidding??? this concept of taxi drivers having any kind of "knowledge" about london is such a fucking joke. i always have to give taxi drivers directions. in fact, every time i've recently got a cab home (black or mini versions), i've actually had to verbally steer them around the imax roundabout coming off waterloo bridge, and onto waterloo road because they didn't know how to get to waterloo road!!!

and 'nesh, that's unfortunate. the cheshire cheese isn't on the strand, it's on fleet street, ludgate circus end -- in other words a bit further up from where you gave up and turned around. no wonder you're pissed off, i don't blame you!

nice to see everyone though. sorry i had to dash off and do some work -- only made it there at all coz i work round the corner. still, good thing i did coz i needed my keys! (can't believe i locked myself out twice in a fortnight!)

Sorry you missed it nesh- it was a funny night. Quite amusing that the judge from Alas's court case happened to stroll into the pub as she held court to a bunch of pierced, long-haired rapscallions (welllll, I suppose Moominstoat was the only obvious counter-culturish looking one- we needed Mordant Carnival's support).

Yeah, the taxi-drivers I've met rarely seem much more familiar with London than I am. I often have to actually point out where I'm going on an A-Z - and even then...

Having trawled back through the thread, I'm extra-frustrated at having been so close before turning around and heading back.

Ack.

Well hey, I can top 'Nesh's sad tale of 'so near and yet so far' annoyance cos I went into Ye Olde Chesire Cheese and couldn't see anyone and, not having anyone's moby no. on me, headed off. Either I am getting short-sighted or you lot were invsible(s).

So sorry all, alas esp! (How crap must I be?! The phrase 'piss-up' and 'brewery', or at least 'pub', do spring to mind!

it was a really fine night, and a tremendously good time. I so wish i could stay an extra night for rothkoid's bash on saturday . . . i'm sorry we had to leave really rather early as we didn't want to come back to court this morning reeking of last night's beer... but it was exactly what we needed, and i'm so glad to have learned about the furries--life feels complete, somehow, now...

and all the social workers, ad litems, barristers, solicitors, and even the Queen's Counsel in court today got a huge kick out the story that the judge was in the pub last night. (And that my first instinct was to squeak and duck--behind the crowd of countercultural barbelithians...)

OH and we went to Leicester Square to the tix booth and got some GREAT seats at THE ISLAND which was fabulous!!! Thanks for the recommendation, Kooky! (We were in the second row, CENTER. I think I felt the spray of spit once.)

I think we may go to the Mozart at St. Martins in the Fields, tomorrow night. ('Euoh How Cultured, Aren't We?' I know I know.)

thanks thanks thanks for all the beer and good fun last night, everyone...

heh. i didn't reccommend it, that was wembley. i just live round the corner from the theatre. (actually, i was the one saying i wasn't sure about going to see it because of a previous bad theatre experience involving john kani acting in an athol fugard play...but i am hearing SO many good things about this one that i will probably change my mind...)
