So, in between now and going off to New York, I've been thinking I might pop down to the coast for my official Jetset Dolescum Initiation Ritual... plums, autopilot, Runce, anyone else (suds is in America, right?) - when's good for you crazy kids?

pick a weekend, any weekend...

david holmes is playing later in the month, and the soul/jazz records people ('100% dynamite' etc) are kick-starting a residency...

i'll score some more options and get back to you.

hey, do you remember when the electric soft parade were the feltroe media? i just realised who they were on totp tonight. weird, because me and my ex-boy would see a lot of them in my second yr at sussex. weird.
i am going to be in jersey from the 17th (i may see you there, mr. fly?) but have a good meet-up in brighton. i wish i could be there.

Most weekends are good for me - I tend to just use them to slow down from the madness of the working week, so meeting some fellow 'lithers would be a good way to do that.

Meeting 'lithers as a way of slowing down from madness? It seems only fair to suggest [understatment] that might not necessarily be the case. [/understatement] This is a Barbiemeet, and not only that, one which involves Fly. You have been warned.

So how does this coming weekend sound to people?

Maybe I should have said 'try to remember what life is about, i.e. not work' instead of 'slow down' - it sounds like a meetn'greet of Barbie folks would fall into that category.

I like the sound of it. I'll check the filofax for family stuff, etc., but if the coast is clear I'm well up for it.

And I promise I won't bring anyone you have to fight.

or be anyone he has to fight, huh?
(oh and nice one last night, btw Runce, muchos better than their last outing, IMHO. how about getting Peaches/Kitty-yo people for a night? )

Think I'm probably free for some part of this weekend, hung over and no idea what day it is, but will check there's nothing major...

Why would I be anyone he has to fight?

I don't like that. I'm not Banksy and wouldn't have gotten all eggy about a quite justified ticking off. I feel pretty bad about that whole scene.

I didn't do Sabbath last night (haven't done it in months and months), but will try to make it next time round. Should support Matt - I know he'd like me to show. Makes it abundantly clear every time I'm over his place. Guilt overload.

So, was it full?

Please, let's forget all about it. It was quite trivial, and a long time ago really - I don't have any desire to fight anyone in Brighton. Except Burchill. You can bring her if you like, Runce. I know secretly she is your wife.

(NB: Banksy? London's hippest graffitti artist? Maybe I will fight him after all, for his stencil collection and prestige.)

So when people say "the weekend", do they mean Saturday?

if we're talking this saturday, we're talking david holmes - though i might be coaxed, blinking, into an afternoon pub meet besides.

The only problem with David Holmes is that the place to stay I thought I had has fallen through, so I'll be heading back to the big smoke at a *relatively* early hour unless anyone has a spare sofa... <doe eyes>

Oh, and ideally I'm thinking arrive quite early, maybe meet for lunch? Then have a wander down the beach or something, I don't want to spend quite *all* the afternoon in the pub this time...

(Oops - quite right sleazey...)

Which reminds me: PLUMS ARGH I AM TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF YOU WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU???!???

OK I'm better now...

have just PM'd you my home phone, btw. think i may have given you the wrong one.

ARGHGHGH

oh and Runce, now i *am* confused, I was imaginging you were the Banks ...never can tell you lot apart, 'all look the same' etc...

I thought so.

No...Matt's my other twin. But w/ anger, a propensity for DJing, fashiarrrn, big hair and picking his nose.

Don't worry, Fly. I love Twartos as much as anyone, but...well, I'm sure it was six of the one half a dozen of the other.

If I can get out of staying at my Pater's this weekend, I'll see if Friendlyboy wants to come along, too. Pub ideas, anyone? I like all the old fart watering holes: Pub w/ No Name, etc.

Nothing really to forget, as far as I'm concerned....

Aaah, but I see we're already discussing clubs. Hmmm. I quite like the idea of socialising as opposed to shouting and dancing. Because I am old man.

Oh well...I'll go along with the general concensus....so long as it's not 'The Joint' or anywhere with a pair of fucking *phat breaks* Adidas on the flyer and a DJ called something like "The Actual Facts of Reality".

I know, I know...I'm a snob, I should grow out of it, etc.

Aaaargh.

Look, I 'm sorry and I'm not being anti-social, but I have to go see the old man this weekend. He hasn't been terribly healthy recently (two heart attacks) and I really feel I should be there for his birthday party on Saturday night. The whole thing's got me quite worried.

I'm pissed off - I'd really have liked to have come along, but I'm sure you understand and I doubt yr that bothered anyway and there's always next time....

Have a good one.

Shame.

I probably won't be staying very long, as I'm feeling utterly wiped out by hard couple of weeks, but it would be good to see people.

What time do people want to make. How about meeting about 3ish, in the George, (bottom of trafalgar street, dead easy to find, see map), collecting people, and then deciding what to do.

Fly, if you wanted to do lunch, Cherry and I could meet you earlier...along with anyone else who can be arsed... up for lunch meet, in general...

What do people think?
http://www.multimap.com/map/places.cgi?addr1=the+george&addr2=Trafalgar+Street&addr3=brighton&pc=&client=europe&db=ap&width=700&height=400&lang=&cname=Great+Britain&SUBMIT=Find

George is at the york place/london road end. Come out of station, cross outside concourse and take the road directly *underneath* the station. That's traf. st.

fly: would love to offer you a spare berth... but we don't have any. no spare room, no couch, no communal spoace even ('cept kitchen). no room at the mothership, i'm afraid.

considered a b&b? some reasonable rates, if you get in quick...

The George at 3ish sounds good to me.

One question: as I don't know what anyone else looks like, how can I know I am approaching the correct gathering of peeps?

Me: late 20s; 6 ft; blond highlights; denim jacket; slightly pensive, nervous expression.

You: ???

Have a feeling I'll be doing the same as Cherry, and not staying very late (so probably won't make Holmes - sorry, 'pilot).

George at 3 sounds good, but I'm still up for the idea of lunch if I can drag my arse out of bed in time to make it down. I'll have my people call your people, plums...

Seeing as you're doley scum now, why don't you put Friday aside to finish off that script so you can hand it to me in person on Saturday? I don't know what anyone looks like but I'm sure my nose will be good enough to lead me in the direction of any ongoing Barbelith activity. If not, I'm told I resemble my characters (the tall slim elegant ones - as opposed to the deformed ones, hopefully), so keep an eye out for a competent Pen & Ink drawing in a fake fur coat wandering aimlessly around the George.

'kay, we'll get to the George (we beinbg me cherry and possibly Fly) for 3.00, and I'm reasonably easy to spot:

Female, indian (yes! in brighton!), short black hair, probably wearing a black/turquiose stripey t-shirt/red long sleeve t-shirt.

cherry: typical loud obnoxious american type. probably be finding something 'quaint'
kidding, shortish blonde hair.

furthermore: briefly, 'cause i'm about to really and truly go see holmes...david holmes - tomorrow nite does see the asian dub foundation play a full length soundtrack to a screening of 'la haine'... which will surely be amazing. still unsure as to whether my already distressed cash no-flow sitch will extend to this - but it's something to think about, yeah?
