I mean, there's doubtless no end of tourist attractions and such like, but, well, what I'm trying to say is..

..where are the good record shops?

(I also want to go to Mulholland Drive and look behind Winkies, but I kind of doubt my friends would undersatand..)

this record store just opened up in recent months called Amoeba Records, it's on sunset just west of Vine i think and it is bigger than some small cities and packed packed packed with the shit you need.

a stroll around melrose also yields tons of cool stores, little punk rock record stores and strange clothing boutiques and headshops selling salvia.

also, make SURE when in la to check out the Museum of Jurassic Technology, it is the most amazing, confounding little place, it's like enterring a different universe, filled with strange magical items and science displays about talking ants, bats who fly through walls, and qabalistic machinery created by adam kirchner. it's totally totally nuts.

oh, and definately go to mulholland and drive around at night. i'm sure your friends will understand -- it's an awesome road, you easily understand why he put that in the movie, i've gone out and walked it at night for like hours and it's completely fascinating...

There's a store called Necromance, god help me if I can remember exactly where, only been to the evil town of L.A. once. Anyway, lotsa neat stuff, including an antique violet wand, and an antique hypodermic needle set. Oh yeah, and large quantities of animal skeletons.

pointless and uncalled for

Get yourself out to SF, it's an almost magical place and there's Alcatraz.

That sounds just what we're looking for..

(pop quiz: is it legal to take that stuff through customs? it sure sounded fun when you were all talking about it a while back..)

Technology

ROCKS.

There's also a really nice park that's basically a hill overlooking Studio City. You can see the whole of LA, the Hollywood sign, the Pacific from there. There's also oil wells on the hill, which is weird. Can't remember the name, but one of the locals will.

I like brunch at Duke's in Malibu, but I think it's around 15 bucks or so, which is a bit much. Great restaurant, though, right on the ocean, and the sunday brunch is all you can eat.

I'm not sure about record shops, but you can find all kinds of anything in Chinatown.

"Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."

if you go to the store ecstasyonemelrose which i think has a site ecstasyonmelrose.com they sell salvia in this full color little carboard box that's shrinkwrapped. i don't think any customs official would every notice that as being a powerful psychedelic, at worst it looks like insense. it's not illegal anywhere, so as long as it's in that shrinkwrapped box, yr probably in fine shape.

grant, i think you might be referring to griffith park, a massive amazing place which also features the griffith park observatory, a great place from which to view the city and which featured in Rebel Without a Cause -- in fact it's definately the only scientific institution on earth that has a marbel statue of James Dean as well as Copernicus.

is anyone going to All Tomorrow's Parties this weekend?
