So…

I imagine a lot of you will already know the bar run by, among others, Bill Drummond: The Foundry (84-86 Gt Eastern Street, London, right on the corner where it forks off from Old Street), and may have heard about their art policy. Well, me and a mate have booked some space there for a show. It’s running from April 2nd – 22nd, with the opening night on the 2nd. Yeah, I know it’s a Tuesday, and it comes immediately after what for a lot of people will be a four – day weekend, so I can imagine there’ll be a fair few fragile heads wanting to hide under the duvet, but….

…. It’ll be really really good, honest! As well as the visual spectacular, music will be provided by my very good friends, the Help! djs (who are also providing sounds at the District bar, right next to Hackney Central station, this Saturday), including some ditties composed specially for the occasion.

As for what you can expect visually, the title of the show is a pretty good indicator. We’ll be interpreting the two themes in light of recent world events. A bit of a departure from my usual style, I have to say. If anybody’s up for brutally cackhanded and bleakly amusing attempts at political satire, please come along, if not for the Tuesday, check it out sometime during the following weeks. Plus, you know, it’d be cool to meet some of you guys IRL , as we say on these message board things that are still damn new to me.

Yeah, we like Da Foundry; some sort of a meet should be arranged maybe?

Ah, a friend of mine told me he'd seen the Foundry mooted as a sometime Barbe-hangout, which definitely rang true with me. Bill, could be a plan; I appreciate that my suggestion is as much a shameless plug as an attempt to arrange a meet - a proper 'get to know you' should happen in a more neutral situation, yeah? Not that I'm excusing anyone from coming to acknowledge my genius.

[btw- question for moderator or anyone w/advice- would it be really rude to plug this in Art & Design too? Just a link to this thread, cuz i never really read this forum myself]

Well I can do thursday. Due to having to leave London next week, that's all I can do till the following week, i.e. from the 15th, Which is quite unhelpful really. Sorry!

Hey peeps!

If you're going to the Foundry I want to come too. Can't do tonight tho'. I'll be there for about an hour early friday evening with my girlfriend's parents, and i'm free every night next week.
BTW, if anybody pops in, my stuff is in the "library", that's the pokey little room off to the left as you enter.

Well, Thursday is not good for me. However, if the majority of people can go that day, then get those wagons rolling.

Any other votes for Thursday???

I'll be going another day, possibly next week so maybe two sub-meets might work.

Who knows if we try hard enough, we might even get those cat's hearded!

Hmm, can't do next week I'm afraid. But I can do the week afta. We could leave it a bit; maybe even go b4 the big bash on the 13th? Not that I have a problem with submeets you understand, just that it might be nice to go as a family.

I suppose it would depend on the Foundry's opening hours on Saturdays... fortunately it is not too far from Islington (I think) so travel shouldn't be a problem. I, at any rate, will be moving on the expressionless's charidee bash in Islington at some stage (could be a bit of a pain for anyone going to the Mayday discussion I suppose - back & forth & back & forth....)

lentil - i'm interested in seeing the exhibition. can you post the weekday opening hours? is there an admission charge?

i would respectfully request that when people post about stuff like this, they give full details. this is the second time this week i've had to scratch around for info!

The foundry is a strange bar type place that tends not to be open during the day or tied to traditional pub/bar hours. The bit with lentil's stuff in is a little side room to the left as you walk in- and may well be filled with people sitting down drinking, don't let this discourage you walk into the room and lentil's stuff will be all around you and behind you...

lentil
13:47 / 10.04.02
...and then you can buy a drink and admire my visual diarrhoea at your leisure. The Foundry opens at 5 weekdays, slightly earlier weekends. You don't have to pay to get in, in fact calling it an exhibition is stretching it a little bit, it's just some stuff on a wall. Basically anyone can show in the Foundry, you just put your name down and wait your turn (I have shown in "proper" galleries too, honest!). If they like you they let you have more space next time, or maybe even move to the downstairs space. Their policy is explained on a big sign hanging to the left of the library, it starts with "I could fucking do better than that" and I like it a lot.

Re meets: Not sure what time the Foundry opens on a Saturday, will check. But... scuttling back and forth between Cally Road and Old St sounds like too much of a hassle, and if it comes to a choice between meeting at the Foundry and getting together to discuss possible Mayday stuff, I'm inclined toward the latter, because, well... 'smore important, innit? If it's plausible to meet at the Foundry and then get to the Islington Bar and still have time to talk out some stuff before the party, all good.

Gozer: The Islington Bar is closer to Caledonian Road tube, it's a good 15/20 mins walk from KX.

OK, what time are people meeting at the foundry, 'cos if it is a choice between the two, pre-meet and aforementioned visual viewing then i'm with you lentil, i can check out your stuff on my own tonite when i finish work...
