I've had three feelings and different views on this. One, what I think will happen. Two, what I wish would happen. And, three, the compromise. What I can see potentially happening that doesn't tilt the world on its axis.
I got into a big debate with a friend on this one. He seemed to think that I was using the US hypocrisy on terrorism as a tasteless arguement against their stance on the attacks. I pointed out that the US and many of their allies harbour terrorists but that these terrorists and their countries will not be held accountable as they will be in other nations, namely the Middle East. I don't expect the US, or any Western country to admit to past incidents. But it would be wonderful if they, from this time on, agreed to a no-terrorism act and did not exempt themselves from it by virtue of their might.
As far as retaliation goes, I hope that they approach this with a scalpel like precison, instead of the large, blunt trauma they are likely to create. This is going to sound naive, but with all the special forces at the West's disposal, and with various countries denying responsibility for the actions and offering up their terrorists, couldn't it be possible for them to move in and take the offending groups down?
It scares me that evn these views, which I feel are pretty right wing, especially for me, are being met with outrage by many of my friends and family. Like I've asked before, and I can't help thinking about constantly, how much blood is enough? When will the people of North America be satisfied? |
