Taliban spokesman interviewed on Radio 4

Abdul Saddim Said, the Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan, was just interviewed on the Today programme. Basically, yes, the Taliban are currently 'sheltering' Osama bin Laden, but he continued to give the impression that bin Laden's under some sort of 'house arrest'. The Taliban seemingly don't believe bin Laden's responsible and don't believe the US will retaliate without attempting diplomacy with themselves. He emphasised, again, that substantial 'proof' would need to be produced before they'd believe bin Laden responsible.

At least there are some people in the world that dont just make assumptions and display them as truths, as certain "people" have been prone to do. Even if it ends up being
Bin Laden, the point is that at the moment its just propaganda created by whoever. Before we blame someone and let it be global knowledge we should have absolute proof.

'Absolute' proof is, under the circumstances, gonna be difficult to provide. There's always gonna be some degree of uncertainty. I'm guessing the term 'proof' will be interpreted several ways...

There is no absolute proof. Ever.

Bin Laden is, no question, an enemy of the US who trains and finances those who would fight against it. I don't say this to justify what may come, just to point out that you may extend him what mercy and fairness you chose, but he is unlikely, by his own avowal, to do the same to you.

This is a very strange world right now.

I tuned in a bit late so I may be wrong, but I got the impression that he was being interviewed via an interpreter, and if this is so, that the interpreter barely relayed most of the questions but instead answered them himself. At one point the person said "he's not going to answer that kind of question"...makes me a bit wary of interpreters when they start interpreting the subject's state of mind rather than their words.

Yeah, it was via an interpreter - but even without one, I suspect he'd have been very, very vague.
