They may have found her.
From MSNBC STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS:
WASHINGTON, May 22 — Skeletal remains found early Wednesday in Washington’s Rock Creek Park are being examined to determine whether they are those of missing intern Chandra Levy, police Chief Charles Ramsey said. A forensic pathologist was called to the scene to examine the remains, which sources told NBC News appeared to be those of an adult female. "We don’t know (if the remains are those of Levy). We certainly are looking into that possibility." -CHARLES RAMSEY Washington, D.C., police chief.
THE REMAINS, which consisted of a skull, bones and clothes, had been spread in the area, possibly by animals, Ramsey said. They “have been there for a period of time,” the chief said.
Asked if the remains could be those of the 24-year-old Levy, who vanished without a trace more than a year ago, Ramsey said, “We don’t know. We certainly are looking into that possibility.”
Levy disappeared on or about May 1, 2001, as she prepared to return to California after her position as an intern with the Bureau of Prisons. The disappearance triggered an avalanche of publicity after she was romantically linked to former Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif.
Ramsey said that the officers on the scene had not yet determined if the remains are those of a man or a woman, or from an adult or a child. But the sources, who spoke with NBC News on condition of anonymity, said they appeared to be those of an adult female.
It was not clear how long it would take to determine whether the remains are those of Levy. |
