just found out that the band are providing a live soundtrack to a double bill, 'man with a moving camera' and 'the commissar', two harrowing films about russia under stalin. am very tempted, but it's expensive.... (15 - 22 quid).

has anyone seen the michael nyman band perform?

[edited to add:] i am pondering the 'politics' of this. snivelling into one's hankie at the poverty and oppression of 1930s russia from one's comfy twenty quid seat and listening to a live band tug the heartstrings still more - seems potentially piss takey to me. any thoughts?

SFD: I've heard a live recording, and they are pretty good. Inasmuch as they can reproduce the sound of the albums well, and are relatively loud. I'm not too fussed on the music from The Comissar, meself- it's a bit too much like everything else he's ever done for it to have much impact on me.

Show me a Gavin Bryars gig, though, and I'm there. Philip Glass will be doing the same film/movie thing with Koyaanisqatsi later this year, which I will kill to see...
