How odd...

quote:The Government has declared a national day of mourning on Friday, September 14 in the Republic of Ireland as a mark of respect for the thousands of people who lost their lives in yesterday's attacks in New York and Washington.
The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern called on all employers and businesses to cease trading for the day. An official public holiday has been declared for the purpose of allowing people observe a national tribute to the dead and injured of the terrorist attacks in the US yesterday.
Ahern asked all employers and employees to honour the spirit of this public holiday to "show solidarity with people of all nationalities who have lost their lives". He encouraged people to attend religious services on the day.
The Tánaiste Mary Harney said that legally pubs and other leisure businesses were entitled to open their businesses but asked them not to trade on Friday.
At a meeting today, the cabinet instructed that all national flags be flown at half-mast. Extra staff from the Department of Foreign Affairs are being dispatched to the consulate in New York to assist in the work of identifying Irish victims

Meanwhile, in Belfast little girls were hit by rocks thrown by adults and someone tried to blow up a police station with a car bomb. It always amazes me how Ireland and Northern Ireland can be so utterly different.

It does give a different spin on the notion of 'countries that harbour terrorists' because under this label the Republic and Northern Irland (and therefore the UK) would also fall

Came across an interesting point last night. The US goverment knowingly harbors terrorist groups. The example given last night was an organization that had been fighting the goverment of Iran for a long time.

And what about the "freedom fighters" who we've trained and assisted. Got a feeling someone on the planet would consider then terrorists. Where's the line?

Where's the line?

It's the one that borders the United States.
