[Since there's something wrong with the old thread, here's a recap of the last page. Continue to your heart's content..(boy, I've been waiting for an excuse to close a thread ever since I got here. )

Psychic TV anyone?

Thom; "<mutter, mutter, incoherent mumbling> Well, we thought there was a fair chance some people hadn't heard these songs before and it was our duty to get these songs exposed to a wider audience."
Where does it stop Bio?

I don't think that's quite it. I think it's that some people reach certain musical plateaux (if you will) at different times than others, and that something that sounded cutting edge to you in '85 may sound old and outdated to you today (if you've moved beyond it) and brand spanking new and cutting edge to someone else entirely today. There's always someone who will consider themselves more *something* than you. No matter how cutting edge your music may sound to you, someone else will tell you it's been done before.

The difference here being that Robert Smith, patently, was not mad about Saffron. Though fourteen might have tempted him.
Hmm.
And anyway. Before them all was Bach. And look, he got ripped off by Procul Harum and Wendy Carlos. No respect, I tells yer...

alright, i've been away for a few days, have a terrible cold and don't have the energy to read all 5 pages of this thread.
that being said, i just saw radiohead at an anormous outdoor ampitheater overlooking the columbia river in the eastern washington desert. it was amazing. i would almost be willing to say that i've never seen a better live show. four encores...my lord....i still haven't recovered.

Did you go when they played the Paramount on the OK Computer tour? I was breaking up with my then-girlfriend and that show was an awesome release for me. I thought that show was tops but the guys I rode with this weekend (who I didn't know way back then but were at that concert too) thought the Gorge show was better.

Saul Williams played 'Lucky' last night. Completely straight. It was grand.

i didn't live on the west coast then, bio. but my roomate who went to both shows said the same thing about the gorge.
they were on fire.

I have just read this entire thread over the past little while and have come across some interesting, and some not so interesting, points about Radiohead and music in general.
My personal opinion on the matter is whether you love, like or loathe the band it doesn't matter to me. And quite frankly, that's the way it should be. You can expose people to music, you can say "You might like this band, give them a listen," but you can't tell me "This band is the best." That is my decision to make, and mine alone.
Whether you like music because it stirs up emotion, whether you like music for the long forgotten memories it revives, or whether you like music because it's fun to dance to, it doesn't matter.
You can tell me that Kid A was shite, you can tell me The Bends expectations were never met, you can tell me that Pablo Honey was type grunge record, but at the end of the day I will still go home, lay on my bed and pop OK Computer in my stereo and drift to some far off place.
If you do that to Britney Spears or Limp Bizkit, that's cool by me. I'll allow you to have your escape, you let me have mine.

Z3RO:

you bunch of fuckers, you just don't understand how lucky you are, being able to say "oh, tonight I'll check radiohead's show" and "blah blah blah" and "oh this gig wasn't that good I prefered when nlah blah bleh..."
The reason behind this rather annoying post
is that I live in Brazil, which kinda of means I have no fucking idea of when I'll be able to see this guys live in my life.
(And, probably, if someday in the future they come down here, they'll be in some kraftwerk-minimalist-kabuki trip, and will refuse to play their stuff from Ok computer.)
I'm just releasing my frustration upon you guys, so ignore me.

I saw 'em live last night. 'Twas incredible. Anyone who wants to diss 'em can see me after school for a round of bloody fisticuffs. And not in a good way.

Z3RO: if you're that cut up about the whole thing, move away from Brazil

WMCS: I agree with you. Opinions are fine, as long as you respect other peoples' and they respect yours. Nowt wrong with airing them at all.

Flyboy: My experience of Radiohead live was pretty damned good, too. I'm quite gutted that I missed tickets for the Oxford gig
