..in which we discuss pimped records, beards and bitrates to avoid cluttering the pimp thread.

So, Lyra, why do you hate the Erick Sermon/Marvin Gaye track so much? I kinda like it, in a 9-10pm sorta way. You know, it's not quite funky enough to dance to yet, but it stands out a little bit more than background music...

I hate that song cos it's Erick Sermon and it's not EPMD, basically.

E double used to sound so weirdly laid-back and menacing at the same time: I never get bored of listening to Strictly Business, Get off the bandwagon, You gots to chill et al. On 'Music' he sounds like George Benson doing a spoken word intro or something equally awful.

Plus I just can't shake the feeling that you do not remix Marvin Gaye. Ever. (except maybe for Sexual Healing...)

Okay, I need to know this, or it will do my head in: you know that main motif in the Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Musik track by Q-Bert? It starts at the beginning, it comes in and out of the song - what is that sampled from? I really want to know.

That same sample was in the Biggie part of "It's All About The Benjamins", by the way...

Do you mean "because he's so good it would be sacrilege", or "because he's shit"? Either way, I can't agree...

And c'mon, you've gotta love that bit where he talks about having to call his friends up and tell them about a new song he's heard that's got him really excited.

Anyway, another question related to that thread, for E Randy and others - on 'One With The Birds', Will Oldham sounds like he sings the line "like the songs of Mogwai, without any words". Does he?
