They're a jolly pop band, slightly camp/kitsch but with a butch sound. Funny in a dignified way (ie not whacky). They have an Ealing comedy / 'old ladies in 30s England mucking about with ouija boards' image (hence the name); band members have proper stage names like The Vessel, The Major and Plucky Young'un etc. Do magic tricks during songs. Well, they did when I saw 'em about 3 years ago, probably completely different now. Singer has an excellent voice, hits the high notes nice. Nearest in spirit to Pulp, but less serious, more into mucking about.

I hate to admit this, since they've obviously got some fans here, but .. I REALLY, REALLY HATE this band in a quite intense sort of way.

I can't put my finger on why exactly, but they just seem to annoy me in every way possible .. I bought their album for £2 somewhere because I liked the name (still do) and it irked me so much I nearly threw it out of the window.. they're so ... chirpy and ... obvious and .. horrid .. they come on like they're really clever and witty, but their songs are just thuggish, generic brit-pop with the sort of 'funny' lyrics Chris Evans would probably enjoy..

but then maybe I'm missing something and should give them another chance..

i remember they did a song about people with ginger hair and called it "ginger" would you believe.
my ex-housemates are truely obsessed with this band, and they dig pavement, grandaddy and stuff so surely they can't be that bad...?
